Hello all,

As some of you know, on June 11, Ernest was found unconscious near the Pacific Coast Highway  after leaving his roommates in Santa Monica (Los Angeles) to head home. Upon being found, he was rushed to hospital where it was found that he had a significant skull fracture and brain damage that caused swelling and bleeding. The next day, he had an emergency surgery to remove a part of his skull to relieve the pressure and has since been in a critical comatose state. Everyday since, Ernest has been fighting for his life and fighting to recover with the help of the UCLA neurology medical staff and has shown small but positive signs of improvement. However, according to the doctors, this process of him coming out of the comatose state and reconnecting the mind to the body is likely to take several weeks to several months due to the extent of the injury and brain damage.

For those of you who know Ernest, you know that he is a fighter and extremely competitive so we KNOW that he is in there still giving all his power and might to come to us sooner rather than later. His family and loved ones continue to be greatly appreciative of all the love, support, positive thoughts, and prayers sent towards them and their beloved Ern.

His father and brother have flown from his hometown Houston to be at his side as he continues to fight his way back to us. Everyday, hearing the voices and commands of his family members and loved ones will play a huge role in his hopeful recovery. As this process will most certainly be a lengthy one, we ask that you contribute on Ernest's behalf to help fund him and his family's living expenses and travel expenses so he can continue to have his family by his side. Any amount or type of help is greatly appreciated.

Hey Everyone,

The family appreciates all the kind words and positivity that you all have showed Ernest and the donations you've given on his behalf. Here's an article written by Tris Wykes in the Valley News that gives a recent update on Ernest's situation and his continued fight.

Hello all,

Since the last update, there have been a few positive changes in Ernest's condition. Physically, most of his visible swelling has gone down significantly in his extremities and his head. He is now looking a lot more like himself. He also has been removed off the ventilator and has been able to breath on his own! They have moved Ernest out of the ICU to a different area in the neurological wing, and once they can get ahold of a new infection he's been fighting and clear it, the plan is for him to be moved to an LTAC (Long Term Acute Care) facility. In terms of responsiveness, there hasn't been any significant strides. He is still responding to commands like "put your thumb up," or "move this arm/leg" at a low rate but it's definitely a positive to know he can still somewhat hear. His family is very thankful for all of you who have contributed prayers, positive thoughts, donations, and other contributions to aid them through this time.

Hello all,

His family and I would like to thank everyone for the generosity shown during this fundraising campaign. Whether you donated, shared the fundraiser with others, or have sent prayers and positive thoughts towards Ernest, we are very grateful for your contribution. As of now, there is not too much to update on his condition. According to the nurse I spoke with yesterday, he hasn't made any huge strides forward in the past few days, but he also hasn't had any major setbacks. Some of the positive strides he's made since the injury include decreased swelling in his extremities and ability to open eyes and move his arms and legs (but not so much on command). The most important part will be to respond to commands that show he can hear and react/control his actions to show a connection between mind and body which we are hoping picks up some speed. When I have new info, I will post here to keep all of you informed. Once again, we thank everyone for their help.
