She also did a live interview and performance for Channel 7’s Morning Show (2017) to talk about her music composition. This was followed by a live radio interview on ABC Radio Gold Coast. Elliena’s goal is to attend university to study a Bachelor of Music and Teaching majoring in Composition, Conducting and Film Scoring.

In pursuit of this goal, Elliena attended a number of Film Scoring and Composition workshops at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane. She was under the tutelage of Gerardo Dirie (DMA, MM Composition, Indiana University, USA) the Head of Composition at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. She also attended lectures given by Cameron Patrick an Annie Award nominee and AGSC Screen Music Award winner.  Cameron is known for his work in Spiderman: Homecoming, Jurassic World & many other contemporary block buster films. Importantly, Cameron is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s film scoring program and an instructor in the UCLA Extension’s Film Scoring Program, and his guidance to Elliena has been invaluable.

Aside from music, Elliena has been an active member of her local Gold Coast community. As an international selling author at the age of 9 Elliena ran free Kids Writing for Kids Workshops as part of the school holiday program run by the Gold Coast City Council libraries. These workshops were also held at local primary schools.

As a result, Elliena was featured on Channel 10 News with Bruce Page and has since performed as a featured artist with Bruce at the 2017 Surfers Paradise Carols on the Beach.

Elliena has also shown strong leadership skills within her school environment. She was a student council representative and Sports Captain at Surfers Paradise Primary School. In high school, at Trinity Lutheran College, Elliena has been class representative in 2015, 2016 & 2018. She was the middle school Cultural Captain in 2017. In 2018, Elliena was elected as a member of the Gold Coast Junior Council, whilst maintaining strong academic results as an honours student in every year at the high school level.

To help Elliena achieve her goals she would like to attend the Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s High School Composition Intensive (HSCI) two-week summer Program in July 2019. The program is designed to challenge and engage students who are serious about music composition. Young composers will take part in a rigorous daily practise of composition through faculty-led private and studio composition lessons. All Participants will build a tool-box of techniques that are essential on the path to finding their voice. Students will learn how to write quickly and effectively and discover rehearsal techniques of professional musicians and ensembles and will have an opportunity to attend lectures by working composers on their music and processes.

Ultimately, each student composer will develop a portfolio of works which can be used for collegiate applications in future. They will experience their work being performed by professional musical ensembles, including the Worcester Chamber Music Society. Students will also learn to work with professional orchestras.

By the end of the two-week intensive, students will have an improved fluency in notating their compositions, and greater confidence in their skill and creativity as composers.

We would like to appeal for financial assistance to help cover the costs of attending this important program. This would enable Elliena to take another step towards realising her life long goals. Note: due to Elliena’s young age it would be ideal for her mother to accompany her on this trip.

Key Dates

Note: Elliena is a professional entertainer and has already saved nearly $1,000 towards this trip and will continue to take bookings and busk to raise as much money towards this trip as she possibly can but your help is needed. Please help Elliena get to Boston!

We believe that by helping Elliena get to Boston this will also greatly benefit our local community. As seen above, Elliena is an active contributor to her local community, participating in many events that support tourism and charitable organisations. By enhancing her skills in music and composition Elliena will be better placed to give more of herself and her talents to the Gold Coast community that she loves so much. For example, Elliena recently created a musical arrangement of a score she tailored specifically for the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra’s Big Band to be played at their upcoming Jazz Jam Concert, an important fundraiser for this not for profit community organisation. She will also be conducting the Big Band at this event. Elliena would very much like to be become a cultural and musical ambassador for the Gold Coast and the Berklee experience is another important step towards achieving her musical goals.

Thank you in advance for your support and consideration in this endeavor.
