Help Daved while he battles cancer

$4,427 of $10,000 goal

Created July 3, 2018
Daved was recently diagnosed with cancer of the vocal cords. I've set up this campaign to help lighten the load on him and his family while he goes through radiation therapy. While in treatment he will need to take a leave of absence from his job as a guitar tech. As the sole provider for his family this will be a very difficult time with mounting hospital bills as well as trying to keep up with the normal expenses of every day living. Your help will be greatly appreciated and will let Daved get down to the business of getting well.

If you know Daved then you've probably heard his stories about being on the road, never in a boastful fashion, but after spending so many years on the road there's always something around to remind him of his days on tour. Weather it's a story about pulling pranks on each other while on the road with Dan Reed Network and UB40 or being out with the Alman brothers or Carlos Santana. the man is a living tomb of rock history. After so many years helping the show go on, let's help him relax and get well so he can keep on truckin'

Hello everyone.
The dust is settling and I finally have a chance to post my (hopefully) final update.
The doctors have proclaimed me succfully clear of my cancer. Now I must return every two months for examination to ensure that the cancer doesn’t return or spread.
I recently returned to work and bills are finally getting managed again.
I want to personally thank each and every person who helped us out with donations, well-wishes, and encouragement.
You all made it possible to struggle through this tumultuous year.
For all those who requested guitar picks, I believe I addressed them all. If you did request and never received, PLEASE contact me so I can correct.
My email is DaSitch@aol

Once again, Kimberly and I sincerely wish to thank all who showed us the kindness and compassion to help us through this very tough year.
Happy holidays to you all.
Kimberly and Daved

Hi, everyone.
I have, hopefully, completed my treatments.
Now I am enduring the affects of radiation. Not pleasant at all.
The doctor says this is to be expected and will last about a month or more.

My neck is burned (see photo) to which I apply lotion several times a day to prevent blistering and dryness.
My throat is severely raw, swollen, and very painful.
I have been prescribed Lidocaine gel and Oxycodone for the pain.
Swallowing is at times a real struggle. I must take very small bites, chew it thoroughly, and swallow slowly and carefully to avoid chocking and coughing which intensifies the sensitivity and pain.
In addition, my tastebuds are out of whack causing food and drink to have a nasty, bitter taste.
I also tire and weaken very quickly.
Not to mention the occasional waves of nausea.
As I said, not fun at all. But doctor says it will eventually go away.

So hopefully I am now on the final leg.
I have an appointment/exam with my radiologist on October 10th to see how my recovery is coming along.
Then I go before a panel of doctors on October 25th to determine how successful this whole ordeal has been and where we go from there.
Hopefully back to work. I have been in touch and updated my employers. My job is secure and waiting for me when I am able to return.
The plan is for a temporary part-time schedule for 2-4 weeks to see how I hold up and then back to my full time position.
So I’m still looking at about another 8 weeks before I start to see any income from my employment.

The GoFundMe account has been invaluable and a godsend in reducing financial stress as I go thru this.
I can’t thank you donors enough for helping us out.
My offer for free picks still stands and I continue to be happy to send an assortment to anyone who does, or has, donated. I have already sent out several packs to donors and have plenty more I am willing to share.
An earlier update will give you all the particulars and choices.
Just let me know what you would like and where to send them.

I may be reached directly at dasitch@aol.com if you have any questions.

Thank you all so much for your support.
Sincerely, Daved and Kimberly

GUITAR PICKS - THANK YOU OFFER

So many people have been so kind and helpful with their donations that I’ve been wishing I could somehow show my appreciation.

It’s not much but, as a thank you, Kimberly suggested that I share some of my guitar pick collection (which I have accumulated through my many years on the road) with anyone who makes a donation or has already contributed to my GoFundMe account.

Just let me know, when making your donation, what address you’d like them sent to. I’ll cover the shipping and get them sent out quickly.

If you have already donated and would like some, just contact me with the same info and I’ll be glad to accommodate you.
If you’d like an acknowledgment of your request please be sure to include an email address where I can reach you.

For communication and donors privacy you may email me directly at DaSitch@aol.com.

I’ll send half a dozen assorted picks for every donation made.

Two weeks of radiation to go.
The doctor scoped my throat this week to see how I’m progressing.
Doing well. You can see the difference in the two photos.

But, tho the cancer itself is greatly reduced, it is not gone yet and the tender tissues around the sides of my throat are getting burned and very sore as can be seen in the most recent photo. Raw, swollen, and painful.

Swallowing is difficult. I have to chew food very well, swallowing small bits slowly and carefully. On the plus side, I get to eat lots of puddings, flans, and jellos.
Yummm!

I usually feel lightly nauseated several times a day now along with fatigue and headaches. All side affects of the radiation my doctor tells me.

Overall, he is pleased with my progress and says once the treatments are finished, I will probably go through about a month of healing while the swelling and soreness subsides.

At least I’m over halfway towards recovery now.
Yay!
Top= current Bottom= cancer at start
