Dear LGBTQIA Friends & Allies,
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Ovations Global Network is asking YOU to help create LGBTQIA Safe Spaces under a project called What The Punk. The project is launching in Florida with plans to evolve nationwide. The goal is to provide safe spaces, dance and music being the common denominator, to as many people possible regardless of sexuality, gender, age, race, or experience level. Under the shared belief that community and performative expression can save lives, WTP curates weekly, monthly, annual, and youth led LGBTQIA Safe Space initiatives. Among those impacted by HIV/AIDS — the population WTP supports — are largely young LGBTQIA individuals, many of which are people of color who are members of the ballroom scene, and/or underground street dance community. WTP emerges out of a vital need for allies and “support systems“ within those communities.
[Weekly]
Whacking Wednesdays encourages ALL sexualities, genders, races, ages, and experience levels to connect in the form of a gender blending community dance class in "Gay Urban Dance Styles" followed by an open floor cypher with a street styles DJ.
[Monthly]
Once a month, the diverse population WTP supports and beyond are invited to a public space for a night of equality, community, and self-expression at the birthplace of these American classic dance styles, "The Club.”
[Annual]
The culminating years programming, What the Punk Fest, is a 3-day queer centric international street dance festival on the memorial weekend of the Stonewall Riots. Lectures, workshops, performances, competitions, parties, scholarships, and so much more by LGBT icons, dance pioneers, and internationally acclaimed artists, and community activists.
[Youth Led]
Youth Kiki/ Ball Series is our response to the many LGBTQIA youth left behind in the system. The goal is to link the existing gay urban dance community (ballroom scene) with LGBT/pride organizations, nonprofits, youth organizations, funding etc. in an effort to liaison a reliable channel for LGBTQIA youth to find friendship, acceptance, and opportunity often oppressed or otherwise starkly excluded to them (IE jobs, education, scholarships, sponsorship, community service, fitness & more). Each “Ball” offers a vital platform for uninhibited self-expression, exploration, and social connection within the diverse populations WTPunk supports.

$50000 LGBT Safe Space Initiatives
$25000 Fl's Intl What The Punk Fest- 60s, 70s, and 80s underground music & dance festival honoring dances born from the LGBTQIA community
$5000 hires 3 dance icons for (1) performance/lecture demonstration, certification course for educators, and contest with judge showcase
$5000 provides dance SCHOLARSHIPS for 10 students
$5000 Youth Kiki’s/Balls
$3500 toward scholarships for low income attendees (1 international & 1 domestic)
$2600 houses ten artists for two nights
$2400 Whacking Wednesdays
$1500 feeds ten artists for a three-day weekend
$500 sponsors 5 kids to attend What the Punk Fest 2019 - LGBT+ Urban Dance Festival
