Families Belong Together!

***Donors who give $25 or more will receive "Families Belong Together" posters, drawn by Filipinx artists Keet Geniza (@makeshiftlove) and Ysh Cabana (cargocollective.com/yshcabana).***

The Canadian Border Services Agency plans to deport Gemma and her husband Rico to the Philippines by the end of January 2019, leaving the future of their Canadian-born children Rica Mae, 12, and Eli , 8, uncertain. While Gemma and Rico do not want to be separated from their children, they also do not wish for Rica Mae and Eli to leave their home that they have built in Canada.

Gemma was a victim of a fraudulent agency who promised her Permanent Residency after working for a particular time period. She later found out that she was given fake immigration documents. Gemma met Rico while they both worked as custodians in OCAD, cleaning classrooms and studios overnight. Their commitment to support and love each other as migrant workers brought them two beautiful and intelligent children, Rica Mae and Eli.

Rica Mae and Eli go to school in Mississauga, have made friends in their neighbourhood, Church and in the community. Deporting their parents would mean that they would also have to leave their home, as their parents do not wish for them to be left under the care of others or worse, the child welfare system.

Let’s support the Concepcion family stay together in Canada! Money raised will go towards the Concepcion family's legal fees, application fee to Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds application, and application fee for Temporary Resident Permit.

ALMOST THERE! We need to raise $2000 more for the Concepcion family to be able to pay for their Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds and the Temporary Resident Permit. They need to submit these before December 21, when they are scheduled to meet with Canadian Border Services Agency.

Tell Ate Gemma's story to your friends, classmates, family and co-workers! Undocumented workers clean our schools, prepare our food and make tremendous contributions to the global economy.

We reached $3000! Maraming Salamat to all those who have donated and shared the link. $3,000 means that Gemma and her family can cover the lawyer's fees!

We still need to raise more money! The Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds application itself will cost them $1,243.00 and the Temporary Resident Permit (to stop the deportation order) is at $1,356.00.

Please send the link to your friends and family. Message them privately and use it as an opportunity to share the story of Ate Gemma and the undocumented workers who keep our economy alive.

Good enough to work, good enough to stay!

A message from the friends and loved ones of the Concepcion family:

SALAMAT for the shares and donations over the course of the day! Ate Gemma is extending her gratitude to everyone. She is anxious about the timeline as CBSA scheduled to meet with them on December 21 to book their plane tickets.

We need your help to spread the word, please tell the story of the Concepcion family to your family members, coworkers, friends!

Gemma and Rico have been working in Canada for a decade, cleaning the classrooms that many of us have learned in. Undocumented workers HAVE MADE TREMENDOUS CONTRIBUTIONS to the building of the Canadian economy. They deserve to have the choice to live and stay here.

Let's support the Concepcion's family's right to stay!
