Government Shutdown (Indefinite unpaid leave.)
So this is the last thing I ever wanted to do, even as a last resort... But I've exhausted all other options.
I am moving my rabbits and I back to Michigan to both accept a new job, and get somewhere more conducive to a happy, healthy life. I initially moved here to build a home with someone I'd been with for two years. It was a very safe bet at the time, and so I took out a loan in order to afford the move (I was a retired wounded vet who had just finished my degree in college, and basically got my dream job near that partner I had a fairytale-strong relationship with) and am still paying that back. So a loan is not possible. Medical bills have forced me to decimate my savings, so after paying 90% of my June utilities and rent, I have extremely limited funds right this second. Problem is, my partner broke up with me literally a week after I signed a renewed lease for another year. I have to break my lease.
I JUST got word from my new job that I got cleared for a working security clearance, basically, and they want me there ASAP. I also just got word that my leasing office is willing to drop the broken lease fees from like $5000 down to $1700, but the catch is that I need to pay it all up front. I do not have this, and they will not accept payment plans. This is too good an offer to pass up, and I don't want them to pull it off the table. They're working with me, and I'm trying to jump at the opportunity and thank my lucky stars.
The rest comes from needing a moving company to assist in the move due to both the last second nature, my total inability to move large heavy furniture due to my spinal injury, and the fact that I do not have any kind of social network on the ground here, as I only know people through my ex, and he requested people burn bridges with me. I got a quote from a moving company that specializes in this, and is veteran owned and operated. It is extremely reasonable for the full service I need. They quoted me at $2300, though I already feel I'm asking too much, so I'm hoping I can simply raise enough for the deposit needed to secure the contract.
I am in a rough transition spot, and I've always been super independent all my life, so this is hard... Please do not feel obligated to donate, I appreciate even just being heard out. There are so many very worthy fundraisers on this site, after all, and while the stress of everything that's happened in the last 6 months has pushed me to the limit, I know I am still blessed. Any help that can be given, I appreciate, and if there is ever anything I can do in return, I will be more than happy to pay it forward.
Thank you for your time.
I want to thank everyone for the support. The $5, $15, $25 a handful of you so kindly donated helped ensure I had gas money, and food for my three rabbits. I am eternally grateful...
The extreme cold snap has killed mu car battery so next thing is to buy a new one so as not to get stranded anymore. I've had to get a jump 3 times, once in a shady area of Detroit. Thank goodness for USAA roadside assistance.
So the government shutdown. As a government employee, I live paycheck to paycheck, and I'm not sure when I'll get paid again. Normally I would say this probably won't last long, but... these are not normal times. This season is rough for everyone, so I absolutely understand that probably no one can afford to toss in even a few dollars.
I'm looking into every option I have, and as quickly as I can because waiting will make it worse. Between contacting creditors to possible temp work... every little bit helps. I missed Christmas with my family due to this shutdown, as well as Goose having another emergency.
On Thursday his kidneys were shutting down. He's beaten the odds so far, I was sure I'd lose him by Saturday. But he's still with me. His emergency vet visits have taken a toll. Anything people are willing to help with would be a massive help...
Thank you everyone. And stay safe.
His name is Goose, as the noise he was making while he was sick sounded like a goose honking. It was my manager's idea, and it stuck... He is back to full strength from what I can tell, eating, and pooping, and getting into trouble.
Now that he is out of the woods, I have some updates on the financial side. I will be going to the bank today to get cashier's checks pulled to pay off the leasing office today. My sister was a huge help on that, and I am so thankful...
The deposit on the moving company has also been paid. The next hurdle (I feel like I'm just handling each wave as it comes...) is the rest of the moving company payments. Those will be due next weekend upon their delivery of my furniture. It's going to be about $1500 or so. I also have my cable bill coming out next week as well, so that will be another $200.
I think I will adjust my goal, to account for these shifts, which, thankfully means I need a bit less...
Anything given, I will be very thankful for. This is helping me move away immediately from a pretty awful situation. I'm beyond grateful even just for the emotional support given by so many. Thank you.
She was a rescue. I found her malnourished, skin and bones, ear torn, fur missing spots, and waste matted to her butt... I couldn't leave her there when it was clear the employees hadn't a clue there was even anything wrong. So I scooped her up, and have been getting her back to fighting shape. She is the sweetest little thing.... and lucky I have tons of rabbit stuff already stocked up, so one extra mouth to feed wasn't out of the way. While taking her in was obviously terrible timing, I had to try.
Check up should be maybe $30. Unsure what antibiotics will be. Any little bit helps! May have gathered enough to break the lease, so progress is being made.
Thank you again.
