Help Cheryl: Aid for Her Amputation Costs

Hey there… as most of you know, I’m getting married in September to my best friend, the man who has allowed me to understand what unconditional love really means. What most of you don’t know is that my biggest goal and dream for my life even as a child was to be a wife and have a loving marriage. With Corey, that dream of mine is finally a reality and so much sweeter than I ever could’ve imagined.

In May, Corey left the town he was born and raised in to move closer *side note - long distance is not for the weak :/*. New job. New state. New living situation. New everything. This definitely wasn’t easy for him but he chose to do it anyway. He chose to do it for me and for us. This was a huge step for us after a year of driving 4 hours each way anytime we wanted to see each other to being together all the time now. I really wanted to do something to show how much I appreciated this and how grateful I was.

He had been making jokes about a puppy and I told him that I would consider but he would have to take her to work with him every day because I didn’t want to get a puppy that had to spend most of its time in a kennel. To my surprise, he said that was fine with him and I started looking at puppies without the intention of buying one for 3+ months. I came across this specific puppy with one blue eye and I couldn’t get her off my mind. I showed him and he loved her too. So, I bought him a puppy and had her transported to us within 5 days (self control? Never met her). He started calling her Cheryl and assured me that it would be easy to take her to work or anywhere else with him because she would be an angel. *insert eye roll* Has there ever been a puppy in the history of ever that has been an angel right from the start? No. Well… that was true until Cheryl. Okay okay, obviously that’s a bit dramatic but honestly she has been the closest thing to an angel a puppy can be.

Cheryl went to work with Corey every day, came with us if we went on a date, or away for the weekend, and even went on a 2 week long cross country road trip - 7 thousand miles in 2 weeks. All of this in 6 weeks of having her. I should probably be jealous honestly because he loves her about as much as he loves me. But I can’t blame her because everyone who meets her loves her instantly. She’s a special little pup and so easy to love. I jokingly started saying that she is the best Cheryl there ever was and although this might not be factual it’s true in my mind.

Today at work, Cheryl got out of Corey’s sight just for a few minutes and her back leg got backed over by a piece of heavy equipment. She was rushed to an emergency vet appointment, after X-rays were done showing a broken femur and fractures to her pelvis they gave us some treatment options and advised amputation would probably be the best option for her :(

They estimated $2,300-$4,100 for the necessary treatment (amputation) & $8,000-$12,000 for treatment if we wanted to have surgery on her pelvis. (They also informed us the pelvis has a great chance to heal fine on its own but if we wanted we could have surgery to be extra safe. Although I would love to be able to do all the extra steps even if just as a precaution, spending that much money is just not feasible for us. Even spending the necessary 2k-4k will be difficult financially but, if any dog is worth it, it’s her.

She is spending the night at Cheat Lake Animal Hospital now in the Emergency Clinic and will be prepped/have surgery tomorrow to amputate.

With all that being said, between bills, a truck payment, wedding stuff, saving for a house/apartment payment, the honeymoon fund, and now adding vet bills, Corey and I are in quite a difficult situation financially. Although I’m sure we will find a way to make do - even if some things need to be postponed or canceled so be it. But I figured this was worth a shot.

I can now confidently say that she will be the best 3 legged Cheryl there ever was and that is a fact.
Any and all help and prayers will be greatly appreciated <3
