She was driving home from work on Friday, October 5, 2018 when a suspected drunk driver veered left of center and hit Cherell head-on. The other driver died from the accident, but miraculously Cherell survived. While she suffered no brain or vital organ trauma, her body was crushed by the impact.  She has already undergone one surgical procedure to repair the right side of her body, and her doctors believe that several more surgeries will be necessary. After the operations are completed, months of rehabilitation and therapy will likely be needed.

As you may know, Cherell and her husband, Eric, have fostered several children and have worked hard to create a safe, loving environment for these at-risk kids. Eric had left his job to stay at home full-time to take care of the youngest children, causing Cherell to be the only source of income for her family. With Cherell unable to work as she recovers, her family will need all the help they can get. The need for assistance is urgent.

How can you help?
Any amount you can afford to donate will help Cherell and Eric make it through this difficult time in their lives. Funds raised will go towards medical expenses, gas for the car to travel to and from appointments, meals, and other day-to-day expenses that add up.

If a donation is not feasible but you live in the Willard/Mansfield, OH region, please consider making a meal for the family, offering to drive Cherell or Eric to appointments/the hospital/etc., or walking their dog Macy. Any assistance is most appreciated!

Thank you.

Hi Everyone,

It has been a busy few weeks and Cherell is feeling better slowly, but surely. She had been at a rehabilitation center getting PT services, but unfortunately, it was discovered that she had a serious infection in her right foot/leg. Consequently, she is now back in the hospital where she has to undergo procedures every couple of days to prevent the infection from coming back.

Despite all this, we are hopeful that Cherell will be able to recover well and get back on her feet. We do not yet know if she will return to the nursing home, or if she will go directly home with visiting nursing staff. We will keep you posted when we know more.

In the meantime, please know that we are all so beyond appreciative of your kindness and generosity. Your financial assistance—but also your love, support, and prayers—have helped to make a very difficult situation manageable . We are so beyond thankful for YOU.

Greetings Everyone,

Cherell had an eventful week and is looking forward to making progress in her healing. On Tuesday, she underwent surgery on her right foot/ankle/leg and the doctors report that it was very successful. A few days later, Cherell's chest tube was removed and we are all hopeful that her breathing and recovery will continue to become easier as her ribs heal.

Late in the week, Cherell was discharged from the hospital (yay!) and was transferred to a nursing rehabilitation center, where she can receive focused treatment in orthopedic care. She will likely be there for quite some time while she works to get back on her feet (both figuratively and literally).

Meanwhile, Eric has accepted a job offer in Norwalk and looks forward to starting his new position this coming week.

All in all, it continues to be a challenging road for Cherell and Eric, but there are glimmers of hope and signs of progress everywhere. Thank you, friends and family, for your continued love and support. None of this would be possible without you!

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all, again, for your support during this difficult time. Cherell and Eric are humbled by and very appreciative of the love and kindness they have seen over the past week and a half.

Cherell had a concerning setback this week when she needed a chest tube inserted due to a collapsed lung. It worked quickly, though, and she is still on track to have another surgery on her right foot. The doctors will be fusing the bones in her foot/ankle so that she will be able to heal and walk again. The operation is scheduled for Tuesday, so feel free to send positive vibes/prayers/whatever works for you her way that day.

In the meantime, Cherell's pain is now to a point where it can be managed and we are hoping this will help put her at ease while her body heals. All we can do is take one day at a time and be grateful for each day we have.

Thank you, again, for your love and support. We'll be in touch soon.

We are so blown away by the response to this request for assistance. Thank you all SO much for your donations, love, and support.

Cherell is continuing to try to rest and heal, with the focus for now being on pain management. She continues to work with a team of doctors and physical therapists to assess the extent of the damage and what her needs will be as she recovers. In addition to the injuries sustained on her arms and legs, Cherell has a broken sternum and five broken ribs, so mobility is quite limited at this time.

We anticipate another surgery on Cherell's right leg/foot in the near future and we will be sure to update you along the way. In the meantime, we are all grateful for the wonderful care she is receiving at Mansfield General. We will also be forever in awe of the generosity and kind words of support she has received from our friends and family. "Thank you" is not enough -- you are all truly the best!
