This week Ched Evans was acquitted of rape. He walks away from treating a woman in the most disgusting, disrespectful and repugnant of ways given what was admitted in court. As Simon Medland QC, the prosecutor said "you treated this woman with "a callous and self-centred indifference, essentially indistinguishable from utter contempt".
He walks back to a football field and a life of privilege and wealth.

Since 2011 the complainant, a young woman whose life has been changed beyond all recognition, has been hounded, harassed, bullied, smeared and has had her life endangered many times. We don't know how she has endured such an ordeal. She sought nothing but help one morning when she awoke not knowing where she was or what had happened to her. What followed was not help, but hell.

She has been brave throughout this ordeal in ways that many of us cannot. It is reported that she felt "destroyed" by the latest trial and "collapsed" after giving evidence. The details of her private life and her horrific treatment in that Premier Inn have been pored over by a nation. Some of them seek to continue that horrific time for her by continuing to post her name online, call her vile names and call for her to kill herself.

We want to be able to show her there are others in the world who care what has happened to her and care what happens to her now. We want her to have a gift to use as she chooses; to have a gesture that shows we hope she finds some peace. I hope that she will accept it via her legal team.

Many rape complainants endure a terrible time in court. Many cannot face court at all. Or even police stations. Or even telling anyone at all what has happened. We would like to raise money so that those women get help too when they do seek help.

We'd like to propose that we give half of any money raised to help women who are victims of sexual violence. We hope that Rape Crisis will accept this gesture too.

We hope that this action is not criticised too much. We do this with the very best of intentions. We just want to show our love for all women who have been through the ordeal of a rape trial and those who were prevented from ever seeking justice because our police and courts are still not a fair place for women to go if they have been raped. This must change.

Thank you for your help in this. Love to you all.

Hi there,

So sorry to bother you and Happy New Year. GoFundMe have asked that I give you one final update before they freeze the fund and hand over the money raised.

I am so grateful to all of you for what you did. It was a fine achievement and had made a real difference to so many women - not least in the support it offered them -by knowing their ordeal did not go unnoticed and that people believed them when they said what had happened to them. Women were deeply upset by seeing what happened to the complainant in court and you helped show them that they were not on their own.

I am sorry it has taken so long before the money could be handed over. The procedure has been rigorous. Rape Crisis and the Police team acting for the complainant have needed to provide identification and other verification and banking details so that it can be certain where the money is going.

I can now confirm that Rape Crisis will receive transfer of all of the funds initially and then will pass 50% of them to the police representative for the complainant. This has been verified as acceptable to Go Gund Me. None of the money will be passed though myself and Rape Crisis England And Wales will confirm this.

Many thanks for you continued support. I do hope to raise more money in various ways in 2017 to support victims of male violence against women in its many forms and I hope that some of you will support me in this too.

Finally, may I say that I wish you all a very Happy New Year. You are really quite marvellous people and you did a very kind and very moving thing for a woman at a time of horrible distress. She was on her knees and you reached out your hands and comforted her with your gesture. I only wish we could have done more for her. We did something. You can all be proud that you did something.

Thank you.

Jean Hatchet And The Women Who Want Better Justice From The Courts.

Hi all,

My apologies for the delay in closing the fund and passing it on. I was informed that Go Fund Me will only direct funds to one account. So... I needed either Rape Crisis or the police in charge of the welfare of Woman X to take all of the funds and agree to pass half to the other.

Thankfully Rape Crisis have now agreed to do this. I am awaiting a final statement from Go Fund Me so that there is total transparency of the amount raised and their admin charges and the final amount to be passed to Rape Crisis. Go Fund me will then close the fund.

The complainant will decide how to allocate her funds with the police team in charge of her care. I know that we all wish her well whatever she decides.

Sadly, but predictably, I have been accused of stealing the fund. A known troll and harasser of women who the police have still not arrested has been plastering over social media that I have stolen money. Not a penny has been withdrawn from the account and when Rape Crisis have received the money from Go Fund Me they will issue a statement to this effect.

Men who hurt women can never understand why women support other women. He cannot understand why you lovely men have joined them either. I totally understand that and will ignore the horrific individual and his attack. It smacks of bitter jealousy that you lovely people have helped so many women. That must make him truly unhappy.

Thank you for trusting me and I have been asked to pass on the very grateful thanks of the complainant. This support has meant so much to her when her faith in the justice system was so badly shaken. Her bewilderment at the way she was treated in that court room is distressing to hear. However, she knows that you cared and she is lifted by that.

Thank you again from the depths of my soul. You did a kind and wonderful thing and we will never let the bullies of this world win whilst we show love for each other in this sort of way.

All our best wishes for a wonderful Christmas.

I have no idea why I cannot post a message with my donation.... but here is what I just left with the closing donation.

I donate for a woman who handed me this money yesterday. She is a woman doing incredible things for other women. She's sacrificing so much to put in place a service to help women victims of domestic violence. She told me her story and it was like many other stories I hear. The thing about these stories is they never stop coming. And they must. When men hurt women those women need to know that one day it will end. One day there will be justice. One day their lives will matter. This fund has been a stand against a system that does not care for women and against men who do not care for women. Ched Evans did not care for this woman enough to ask her name. Or anything else. We shall remember her as Woman X. We shall love her as Woman X.

Love to you all and thank you.

Hi,

Once again I want to thank you for your incredible support. I realise that many of you donated more than you could really afford in order to help women.

I intend to close the fund on Sunday 27th November to coincide with the Domestic Violence Murder March in Manchester. This is a march to celebrate the lives of women killed by current or former partners while the government still hasn't ratified the Istanbul convention to tackle violence against women.

The convention would force the government to take action on all crimes of violence against women and girls. Crimes such as rape are included so it seemed the appropriate event.

The outpouring of love from yourselves towards the complainant in the Ched Evans case has been amazing. You are quite something when you see a woman who needs help and support. You can be really proud of yourself for this gesture of kindness towards her and also towards past and future victims of rape who will benefit from the half of funds which will go to Rape Crisis.

Please continue to share the fund this weekend so that we can have one last effort to show our love of women in a world where things sometimes seem full of hate for them. I have been particularly saddened this week by the Daily Mail's treatment of the Jo Cox murder where the justice delivered on her brutal slaughter by a man was relegated to page 30.

At a time when women's lives appear to matter so very little you wonderful people have shown that they do. They really do.

Rape Crisis will post an acceptance of the amount they receive on their website and when I have passed the other half to the police team supporting the complainant I am sure they will do likewise. After communication with them they think it is wise not to ask what she will do with the money for fear of her being further abused. If she chooses to donate it or keep it is immaterial. The gesture you have made is the one she values.

Thank you. You are stunning humans.

Much love,

Jean Hatchet and The Women Who Want Better Justice For Women.
