Help restore HMTCC-Chantal

Hello,

Thank you for taking time out of your precious day to potentially partner with us to help a devastated city and people. As you may know, Haiti as an island has experienced some of the worst natural disasters in all the western hemisphere. Recently, just 2 years ago, hurricane Matthew destroyed homes, roads, businesses, fields, and killed thousands of men, women, children, and livestock. The sad reality of all of this is the continued hardship that the Haitian people face on a day-to-day basis. Due to these natural disasters, economic struggle, political unrest, nominal education, poor healthcare, bad sanitation conditions, and a host of societal issues, the country as a whole is in dire need.

Recently, one such community experienced hope shattering devastation. This brings us to our cry for help….. Please continue reading!

Chantal-Haiti is a commune in Les Cayes, arrondissement du Sud (in the southern region of Haiti.). It has just over 30,000 inhabitants.

We, the Missions Team of the Haitian Ministry Theophile Church in Christ (HMTCC), have dedicated our time, resources and energy in serving the country of Haiti over the past 35 years, through missions. On a larger scale, we extend our services to the community by building churches, schools, providing medical supplies, food, and education to men, women, and families. Last year, by the grace of God, while on a medical mission to Les Cayes, we received report of a Church in Chantal that was devastated by a previous natural disaster - (note: a member of the HMTCC, Ms. Marie Dumanese Desir had originally built this church/school in this area and later entrusted it to HMTCC in 2008). As a mission team, we planned a detour in the middle of our trip and decided to see things for ourselves. Upon arrival, the sight of things was difficult to digest.

The building had more than 60% structural damage, 80% of the roof was missing, and iron and brick foundations were cracked and ruined, the courtyard was destroyed, the entrance was damaged, the gate to the church was broken (may I add, security is a major concern in Haiti). Only 20% of the building was usable, but only because a very large plastic tarp was used to block the rain and extreme heat exposure from the sun. This is the condition of the building that is used as both a school and place of worship. Currently, due to its damage, many students who attended school at this building are no longer continuing their education, nor learning (they cannot afford another school), and with Haiti’s 61% literacy rate, compared to the 90% literacy rate of the rest of the world, this building is critical to the education of young children in the area, and faith for the community present in these harsh conditions.

We are asking you to place a caring hand in the pot with us! We are in need of $100,000 to rebuild the foundation, construct a new roof, build a courtyard, fix the broken entrance, repair the gates, re-wire for electricity, paint, and furnish the building to resume school and weekly services by this September 2018. The sum $100,000 is no small mark to reach. In fact, it will take many hands to be put into the pot, many hearts to be moved, and many people to be reached. However, we believe that it starts with ONE person.

We hope and we pray that you are willing to be ONE. One person who says I may not have much, but I can help. One person to say I will contribute to this need. One person to say I may not be able to go, but I am able to give. One of the people to stand with us to help Chantal rebuild their center of hope and education. Ms. Desir passed away in January of this year; we want to keep this beacon of light shining as bright as we can, as long as we can, and together, WE-CAN!

Thank you, and any amount that your heart cheerfully gives will be a source of hope, encouragement, and life to children and families in Chantal.
