This is Celeste. She's nearly seven years old and she's the most wonderful black cat in the world. She loves to lounge around in bed and chirp at the birds and squirrels she sees from the window.

On 21 January 2019, I brought her to the vet because she had been losing weight and not eating as much as she normally does. They discovered a large lump in her abdomen. I'm going back tomorrow so she can get an ultrasound so we known what the lump is and what we can do about it.

Money is already a little tight, but I've managed to cover the first round of payments (the initial visit, an X-ray, and subcutaneous fluid to hydrate her). The money would go towards paying that first rounds of payment back (so we can still afford food until we get paid again), plus the estimated costs of an abdominal ultrasound, blood tests, and a possible surgery. Obviously, since this is happening all at once, the sooner we secure the funds, the better.

We've had Celeste for over five years. She's a member of our family and we love her dearly.

Also; it's my birthday on 9 March, and nothing would make me happier that to see my little Celeste at full health. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any bit you can give.

Best,
Derek, Steph, and Celeste

Time for another update! Celeste had her second round of chemo today, and by all metrics appears to be taking to the treatment well. The major growth in her abdomen has shrunk so as to become imperceptible during her checkup, and she exhibits no sings of pain or distress. She is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom like a champ. And all of this is thanks you your immense generosity.

As we enter a new month, we've hit a road bump. My partner Steph's last paycheck is being withheld by her old boss. This paycheck would be enough to cover this round of treatment, our rent, and then some, but paying her employees on time has never been this person's strong suit. And so humbly we turn to you to help us weather this storm, and help us to keep giving our Celeste the treatment she needs.

A million thank yous are not enough.

Cheers,
Derek, Steph, and Celeste

Time for an update. Celeste went to get her first round of chemo yesterday. The vet said that she was responding very well to the prednisolone. She's eating as she was before, her energy levels are up, and her stomach has been reverting to its regular size, which all bodes well for how she will handle the chemo. Her blood work also came out all clear.

As I said before, we're going to keep this running as long as we can because every little bit helps fit Celeste's treatment into our budget.

None of this would have been possible without your generosity. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts. This helps much more that you probably know.

I'm sad to report that Celeste has large-cell lymphoma, the rarer and more aggressive of the feline cancers. Though this news is incredibly sad, there is something of a silver lining.

Our oncologist said that she has has success with a pill-based chemotherapy treatment that is about eight times cheaper than injections, and would necessitate about four times fewer visits to the vet. She has said that some cats have lives up to a year after their diagnosis with a good quality of life. So that's the option we've decided to go with.

Thanks to your immense generosity, we've been about to bank two months' worth of treatment already, and for that we are extremely grateful. That said, even though this is the much more affordable option (~200-250$/mo vs. 400$/wk), the cost does put a dent in our budget. So as I mentioned last time, we've increased the campaign's goal to $3,000 (which, minus the amount we've already received as of today, cover about another 10 months of treatment). So if you find yourself still able to chip in, please do. Any little bit helps in our day-to-day.

We thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. This means more to us than you will ever know.

Cheers,
Derek, Steph, and Celeste

P.S. For the sake of transparency, here's a list of the expenses we've accrued so far, so you can see where your money goes. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1s6gAXDeLeVbttpq61BCEfGMadFHebv1TIf-b_jp9qSs/edit?usp=sharing

I have some bad news to report.

We're still waiting for the results from the lab, but all signs are pointing towards our beloved Celeste has feline lymphoma. All depending on how far along the disease is, we'll see if we opt for chemotherapy or something more palliative, which may mean that we'll adjust the target. In any case, we will keep you all posted.

I do want to say that we are all humbled by the overwhelming amount of support we've gotten so far. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
