Help Cedar Park Firefighter Battle Cancer

Donation protected
So many times we call on our local heroes in our greatest times of need. We give thanks and praise to these men and women, tell our friends and family about how wonderful the firefighters were that arrived on scene, or how great the Paramedics were that cared for us during the transport to the hospital. How about that police officer who pulled over to block traffic and helped you change your tire? These heroes are our neighbors, friends and family members. They don’t wear capes nor are they invincible or bullet proof. These amazing individuals wear a uniform and a badge. They answer the call when they are needed and put their life on the line daily. But sometimes, it’s them who need help, and need us to respond to them in their time of need.

This is Lieutenant Matt Simpson. He is a local hero and firefighter in Cedar Park, Texas. Matt is a graduate and former baseball player for the University of Texas who answered the call to service. He chose a life of service to others in his community, knowing the sacrifice that might have to be made in this line of work. He is a loving husband and a father of 2. Matt recently suffered a back injury while on the job. This led to the discovery of something that no one is prepared for. Matt was informed by his doctors that he had a fracture in his spine. The fracture is a result of his bones being weakened by an extremely rare cancer known Multiple Myeloma. It travels the body in the plasma of an individual’s blood and attacks bone, making it brittle and susceptible to breaks. The statistics of getting this form of cancer in the United States are less than 1%, with an average diagnosis age of 70. The cancer has no cure as of right now, and takes very extensive treatment to prolong a person’s life as well as keep them as active as possible. Having a 2 year old daughter and a 6 year old son, keeping him as active as possible for their sake is of upmost importance.

Our local hero and his family have sacrificed many sleepless nights and time together so that Matt may serve his community. Now we are asking that you help one of your heroes during his and his family’s time of need. If you have the ability, please donate to our cause to help care for our friend and brother. 100% of donations raised will go directly to the Simpson family to assist with all expenses associated with Matt’s medical treatment as well as the family’s needs. It takes a hero to care for a community, but sometimes it takes a community to care for a hero. We thank you for your love and support and will have updates on Matt and his family as they come.

Sincerely,
Your Cedar Park Firefighters
