With a surname which is an ode to a favourite crustacean, it’s no surprise that Wayne Crabb is drawn to the sea.

Wayne, 65, was born with cerebral palsy. He lives independently with support from Cara in an apartment in Woodville West. Wayne is a graphic designer and an avid sailor with Sailiability SA.

Sailability is a program at some sailing clubs that offers an additional level of support, an established network of volunteers, and equipment to assist people of all-abilities to get into sailing.

Wayne loves to sail and can often be found captaining a small yacht on the Port River or in Goolwa most weekends.

But the beauty of sailing is it can take you all over the world – literally.

Wayne is fundraising to be able to compete in the Sailability Hansa World Championships in Hiroshima, Japan in October 2018. He needs to fund flights for himself and a disability support worker. Wayne’s volunteer crew member will fund their own way to Japan.

About 200 sailors and 300 volunteers from more than 20 countries are expected to participate in Hansa World Hiroshima from October 12 to 18. Beyond sailing, the event will celebrate the city of Hiroshima’s wish “the importance of life and the preciousness of peace”.

Wayne needs your support to make it to Japan!
