Farmington Rowing - Shower Facility
Recently we were given access to one of the buildings on the camp property which has not been used for some time. It is ready to be gutted and made into a beautiful new FVRA shower and locker facility but we need your help to make it happen!
We're looking to add showers, a water heater, a toilet, a changing area, sinks and row of lockers. These additions will not only improve the site as part of the camp but also greatly improve the resources we are able to provide rowers. Participation in morning practices will no longer be limited by a long commute and the need to shower. Practice can be followed by a quick wash up, change and then rowers can hit the road.
In the hopes of making our project as cost effective and environmentally friendly as possible we will be repurposing supplies whenever they're available. Resources like The ReConnstruction Center in Newington, CT ( http://www.reconnstructioncenter.org ) provide a great recycling option for repurposing building materials that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.
We're looking for your help to fill our facilities gap! Meeting our goal of $2500 will make huge headway towards making a shower and locker facility reality. We plan to complete all upgrades ourselves and are looking for financial support to make this dream a reality. We hope to begin work on this project during the off season with the plan to open it for use starting next summer. Any amount you can give brings us closer to our goal and will help us support our community rowing programs. Thank you!
FVRA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
We've made a lot of progress on the project this year and are looking forward to early spring when a small group of outside contractors will come in to complete the project. They have graciously volunteered their time and expertise as electricians and plumbers to help make our plan a reality.
Donations are always welcome to keep this project moving forward. Supplies purchased this weekend were just under $200 and the funds came directly from the gofundme account. Thank you so much to all our donors for making this project possible! With the headway we've made this year we are in a very good spot to complete the project in the spring of 2016. More updates to come as soon as work starts!
Have a great holiday season!
It's been some time since we have had a chance to make headway on our shower project. This morning several club members did work taking down the final existing wall, hanging a door and removing old electrical outlets and wires to clear the space. While there is still a way to go it definitely feels like we're finally making progress. The building now holds more of a clean slate to make our shower project a reality.
We have more prep work to do with the floors and walls before we can bring in outside help for the plumbing and electrical but we have a plan and are moving forward. Our hope is to continue working towards the new floor plan (attached) so we can have a large portion of the work done before winter temperatures drive us out.
I know it's been a while but we still really appreciate your support and hopefully next spring we will be able to provide rowers on Rainbow Reservoir with a new shower facility for morning rows.
Progress was made today as members of the men's racing team started to gut the existing structures from inside the building that is soon to be the shower facility. Freezing temperatures and feet of snow have delayed the work until today's spring thaw. They ripped down the existing drywall, insulation and old fixtures to make a clean slate for construction. In the coming weeks we will be finalizing the layout based off of what remains in the building and getting our supply list together so we can get started with the build.
Thank you for your support!
Expect more updates as the project continues.
Thanks again and we'll keep you updated as our project moves forward.
