Help Binx Get Better

Donation protected

Today, my fiance, Amber, and I came home to find her five year old cat, Binx, seeming to be in distress. He was hunched and straining like he was trying to go to the bathroom, yet nothing was happening. Just a few dribbles of urine here and there and a lot of tail twitching. Every now and then he'd make a wheezing cough sound. We tried to get him to walk and he would, but not for long or much. He let me feel him and examine him as much as I could, even picking him up or positioning him. He didn't react in pain when I touched around his abdomen. We kept a carefully eye on him for a couple of hours hoping that maybe he was simply consitpated. The strainging only got worse, so we rushed him to a local vet that was still open.

He cried and complained all the way to the vet. We felt so bad! We kept talking to him and trying to reassure him the best we could. He still go so upset he started panting...

He is Amber's baby that she's had ever since he was a tiny fluff of a kitten. While we are glad we caught what was wrong, this can be life threatening to cats and reoccur in the future. She's very worried for her vampire, fox faced kitty. She doesn't know what she'd do without her sweet baby.

At the vet, we found out that he has a urinary obstruction, which turns out to be common in male cats especially in drier climates such as the desert we live in.  Cats don't typically drink much water and usually get moisture from their food. We do feed our cats a can of wet food at night, but then leave water and dry food out all day for them to free feed on. The vet was able to get a catheter in and alieviate some of the obstruction to allow some urine to pass. However, they wanted to keep him for up to 72 hours with the catheter in to make sure ALL of the obstruction was out.

The bill...shocked us, to say the least. They wanted to charge up to $2,500 to cover everything, including "just in case" they need more medications or extra IVs and time or to test for extra things if there was no improvement.  We explained that we couldn't afford that. They directed us to a nearby emergency vet that dealt with such situations. We ran a very upset Binx over to the other vet and explained to them what had been done already. The vet there confirmed his blockage and what needed to be done. They quoted us more like up to $1,500 and charged $600 up front. The rest, whatever that may cumulate to, will be charged when we pick him up in 2-3 days.

Why are we setting the campagin for $2,000 if they quoted us $1,500? We basically want to make sure we have EVERYTHING covered, including any medications afterwards. The $1,500 was only for the hospital stay, IVs, sedation, catheter, pain meds, and other fees associated with staying for 2-3 days.

We will be enternally grateful for ANY help that you can spare so that Binx can continue to have a happy and healthy life! Binx will also be very happy to give you a headbutt and rub his vampire fangs on your cheek! Or play with your shoe. Which ever he gets distracted by first, lol.

If you cannot donate anything, please at very least share and pass the word along!

I mean, look that that face! How can you say no?
