BA Tortuga has been a vital part of the m/m writing and publishing community for well over a decade. Together with her wife, Julia Talbot, she created Torquere Press in 2003, the first e-publisher for GLBT romance, giving hundreds of writers a venue to publish their work, and readers a place to find their next great read.  For years, she's entertained us with her books, her personality, her smile, and her warmth.

Now BA needs our help. She suffers from Takayasu's disease, an extremely rare and serious arterial illness that has caused her incredible medical issues. The disease is so rare, she's one of only a handful of people in the United States with it, and doctors are having a difficult time treating her. She's currently in the hospital as doctors struggle to find a way to help her.

Her medical bills are already enormous.  Now she's facing a transfer to a Mayo Clinic in another state, where hopefully, doctors will be able to treat her. The financial burden is staggering. She and her wife, Julia, need our help, and the sooner the better.

The funds collected here will be given directly to BA to help offset the cost of relocating, paying her bills and mortgage while she struggles to get treatment.

BA's situation is dire, folks. She's given so much to our community, it's time to give a little back. If you can help, please, please do so. Send her love, send her prayers, and if you can, send a little payback for everything she's done for us.  She needs us.

Hi y'all! Thanks to your incredible generosity, we made it to the Cleveland Clinic. We're pretty sure now that we've exhausted the best medical minds in the country, and while we didn't get all the answers we hoped we would, we're back home and following up with the team here in NM. We can't even begin to tell y'all how much it means to us that you've been able to help us, and we want to thank each and every one of you and hope you will keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we try to get back to some kind of normal.

We can't thank y'all enough for your love and generosity. After almost 3 years of trying, BA got a referral to the Cleveland clinic, which has the number one expert on her disease in the country. This could be huge for her, and while we can make it there, we're tapped out paying surgery bills for the fibroid the size of a grapefruit. I know Kiernan updated y'all, but this is one last push for us to try to get BA the help she needs. Even if you can just share it for us, that would be huge, and we love y'all so.

Hey y'all. I cannot tell you how much it all means to us, what you've done. We feel like we have the best friends and family on earth. BA has finally had her surgery to remove Polly the (fibroid not polyp) in her uterus. That has set us back enough that we don't know what to do now, as the referral to the Cleveland (rather than mayo) has finally come through. I'm not asking for more from anyone except to maybe share this gofundme out there on the web. Our income has fallen since BA is having trouble working, and we're doing our dead level best to make it ourselves, but I'm not sure we can. So much love. Julia

We're so close to our goal! We only need 820 more to hit it. You folks are unbelievably kind and caring and have truly restored my faith in humanity. Seriously, that's not bullcrap. With all the teeth gnashing going on all around us lately, all the tragedy, it feels wonderful to know our community knows how to circle the wagons and help our own in times of crisis. Thank you, every one of you!

BA is still at home, jumping through the insurance hoops. There's a checklist she has to go through before Mayo will even consider her case, but there's a bit of good news - her new doctors have finally given her a diagnosis (other than her main diagnosis of Takayasu Syndrome). It seems once you have an autoimmune disease, you run the risk of developing others, and BA has. She's suffering from one in which her body eats the protein in her blood. The good news is that while there's no cure, they can treat the symptoms.

So, now I need to ask again for everyone to share, share, share, and give what you can. Let's put BA over the top of the goal!
