Help Adesola finish her PhD

Donation protected
Hello!

My name is Adesola Bello and I'm currently in my third (final) year of PhD in Clinical Medicine Research (Human Nutrition) at Imperial College, London. I have always wanted a career in scientific research, which is why I have been relentless in my academic pursuit. I have consistently worked hard to maintain excellent grades and academic performance.

In 2014*, I obtained the Presidential Special Scholarship for Innovation and Development (PRESSID) which was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The PRESSID Scholarship scheme was inaugurated in 2012 under the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration to sponsor Nigerian students who graduated with a First Class undergraduate degree for their MSc and PhD degrees in any of the top 25 (later increased to top 100) universities in the world; under the agreements of a bond with the government to return and contribute to the development of the country.

The scholarship was meant to cover tuition and other study related costs as well as living expenses and travel costs.  I was excited as the Scholarship promised to help me achieve my career goals. I took the offer, studied for my Masters 2014/15 and started my PhD in Jan 2016, both at Imperial College. All was fine until that first year of PhD. We (other scholarship beneficiaries and I) had to wait up to 8-9 months before receiving our stipends and tuition fees. And that was the last time we received anything from FGN.

All efforts including letters written to the President, Vice President, Minister of Education, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Relations & Diaspora,  and Executive Secretary - National Universities Commission (NUC was in charge of PRESSID administration); social media appeal, and press appearances (on ChannelsTV Sunrise show , The Sunday Punch and others) have been futile.

I've since had to fend for myself and raise funds through financial aid from my university, loans and donations from family and friends and various part-time jobs. But my aid has now run out and I still have £21,333 of my tuition to pay. This is why I need your assistance.

(EDIT:Paragraph added 23/02/18) As we may know, tuition fees for overseas students are a lot more expensive than UK/EEA students, hence the huge sum. My tuition for the 2017/18 academic session was originally £31,500 but thanks to the financial aid I received from the College, (which also helped pay my tuition fees for the entire 2016/17 session), I have only £21,333 left to pay.

I will continue to work to cater to my living and maintenance expenses, but would need all the help I can get with my tuition. My university has agreed to split my tuition over the seven months before the session ends in September 2018, so I have to come up with £2,121.90 in March, and £3,201.85 every month till September. I believe with your help I can do this!

I understand that this is a lot of money to come up with in such a short time. But I believe nothing is impossible.

If I can clear this debt within the time frame, I will avoid any interests, I can move on to the Completing Research Status where I will not need to pay any tuition fees, and most importantly I will  be able to finish my PhD and get my degree.

I appeal to you, please help me achieve my lifelong dream by donating or/and sharing this as widely as you can. No amount is too little, and every Facebook share, tweet, etc will go a looong way.

Thank you so much for reading this, and for helping!

*Corrected 23/02/18: I received the PRESSID award in 2014, as one of the second set of awardees.
