Drought has devastated the rural village of Mahawilachiya, Sri Lanka. The impoverished people, mostly farmers and shop-owners, are still very friendly and hospitable, the children happy and smiling despite their circumstances.
Students at the government school there, Gamini Vidyalaya, are extremely bright, dedicated, and eager to learn, but the school is shockingly low on funds, supplies, and resources. For example, the students have to bring filled water bottles, as they have no access to clean water at school, and no water filter.
The computer lab, where the students can learn invaluable lessons of typing and such, lacks an air conditioning system/proper roof. Because of the hot and humid Sri Lankan climate, this has caused two computers to be destroyed already, a huge waste of money that the school cannot afford.
Help us help these kids! Even a small donation is a big step in transforming these students' lives.
