Help a Downed Delivery Driver!

Life is precious.

This is a story about how the unexpected could happen to anyone at anytime, and how one small, selfish act can tragically alter another's life.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 1st, 2018, Jeremy (or Jerry as some of you may know him by), a manager in training for Domino's took one last delivery for the night before returning to the store to close. When he arrived to the location, he was approached by a man who demanded money from him. The man, we believe, was the original caller who placed the order. When Jeremy said he didn't have any money, the man was already pointing a gun in his face.

Jeremy was shot at six times, taking three bullets to his head and neck, and one bullet grazing his face. After putting up a fight for his life, he was able to flee on foot, abandoning his vehicle which was later stolen, recovered, and currently in police impound, then flag down a police officer who took him directly to Detroit Receiving Hospital. Upon arrival, Jeremy's condition and outlook was unknown. Thankfully, Jeremy survived and is expected to make a full recovery. He still has three bullet slugs and multiple fragments in him that were deemed too risky to remove. (Back of his skull, at the base of his skull extremely close to his c-spine, and another in his neck that's too close to major arteries to try and get out.)

Right now there is a pending investigation so many details are being left out on purpose. Multiple news outlets have several different stories so if you want a more truthful report, check back here regularly. We will update when we are comfortable, after getting permission from the detectives involved.

With this said, Jeremy has no insurance coverage and is understandably not going to be returning to work there anytime soon, if at all. It has only been a short time since the attack but he is already experiencing flashbacks and major panic attacks. He can barely sleep from the pain and discomfort and when he finally does get to sleep, he is awakened by night terrors surrounding the attack. He will need future therapy for his mental health as well as physical. We do not know if the insurance his employer has will be able to cover these services, and if so, for how long.

Jeremy is part of a blended family that includes four young children ages 4, 6, 9, and 11. These kids mean the world to him. He also has an extended family that has been there for him throughout this ordeal who love and support him. He has been a part of the Domino's Family for the last 8 years and has grown to know and perfect certain aspects of the job that he's created so many lasting friendships at. He is a former Emergency Medical Technician and has worked in both Detroit and Flint EMS, as well as in other Metro Detroit areas. Emergency Medical Services are his passion and he took this current position to better his household and to eventually fulfill his dream of attending school to become a Paramedic. As of right now, we do not know when he will be able to return to the workforce, and are afraid his dream to be back in an ambulance may be shattered because of this.

Let's do what we can to show Jeremy he is not alone in this battle and help keep him on his feet. If you can't donate, please share. All funds are going towards Jeremy's day to day expenses while he is off work, and any out of pocket medical costs in the future. Anything is greatly appreciated and we want to thank you in advance!
