If you're reading this, you already know who I am and what I'm about. But, if you don't know me, my name is Chris Swinney. I'm a deputy sheriff with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office with a soft spot for the men and women in blue. These gofundme accounts are happening far too much across our great country, but this one hit me right in the gut and knocked the wind out of me. I've been  compelled, along with others,to take immediate action.

My academy mate and friend, SSFPD Officer Robby Chon, was attacked in South San Francisco yesterday. Robbie was struck in the head with a skateboard and as a result, he's in intensive care. It's too early to know what the outcome of this tragic event will be, but I know we can help him and his family through this terrible ordeal if we work together and show our support. Obviously, as I receive updates of his condition, I will share them with all of you.

Whatever money raised will go directly, in it's entirety, to Robbie and his wonderful family. The money will be used to help off-set any medical costs or unexpected bills that will pop up during this difficult time. Robbie is the kind of man who'd give you the shirt off his back, it's time we return the favor.

Robbie doesn't know this because I never shared it with him, but he was one of the few guys who insipired me at the police academy.  Without him, I might not have finished. He would run our PT (physical training) and often did his famous, "Chon Kickers." That excercise kicked my butt, but it was well worth it. His view and take on life, with friends, family, and complete strangers, has always been top-notch and pleasant. His career has been example of what it means to be a "go to" officer, leader, and teammate. Raising any amount of money for Robbie and his family won't make things entirely right again in the short-term, but it would help.

I feel a great sense of pain and sadness knowing he's fighting for his life in a hospital right now, but I will not quit on him now, or ever. Robbie would not be happy that I started this gofundme thing, it's not the type of thing he would like because he's the most unselfish person you'd ever meet. But, he's the kind of guy you can't help but want to help, and he needs our help now.

This effort is not me alone. SSFPD Officer Chris Devan and the entire SSFPD Administration is pulling for one of it's finest officers to make a full recovery and survive this malicious attack. I can tell you that the entire San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, Daly City Police Department, Colma Police Department, Broadmoor Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Burlingame Police Department, San Mateo Police Department, San Bruno Police Department,  BART PD, and the remaining law enforcement agencies along the Peninsula and throughout the state are pulling for him to make it through this. With your help, we might be able to turn this tragedy into something a little better.  I'm not asking that you break your bank, and I know the Holiday Season is amongst us, but any amount would be greatly appreciated.

Please consider donating to this cause for SSFPD Officer Robbie Chon and his family. The entire law enforcement community would be grateful for any support you can show his way.

**IF you would like to donate a check or offline, you can do so by sending a check made out to "South San Francisco Police Association" with "Injured Officer Chon Fund" on the memo line to:

Sgt. Sean Curmi
SSF Police Association
33 Arroyo Drive
South San Francisco, CA  94080

Sincerely,

Chris Swinney (SMCSO Deputy Sheriff)
Chris Devan (SSFPD Officer)

Hey everyone. Just a quick head's up. Robby has done very well through his procedures and is progressing slowly. The support of everyone in this campaign and across the country is what keeps him going. Robby is hopeful that he can return to full duty. Thank you very much.

Now that Robby is in the recovery phase of his long road ahead, Chris and I agreed it was time to close the donations for this gofundme campaign.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone's generous support and words of encouragement. The support for this effort from the moment we started has been unbelievable and encouraging. My efforts to be a better officer and person have increased ten-fold knowing people truly appreciate and support law enforcement.

YOU CAN STILL DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENT for Robby and his family.

Sincerely,

Chris Swinney

**UPDATE**

The unbelievable amount of support- from across the country and abroad- has helped Robby and his family improve since Thanksgiving day. No one expected for this cause to take off, but it has and every single comment will be shared with Robby and his family.

Robby was recently moved to a rehab center that specializes in Traumatic Brain Injury recovery. He continues to improve and his fight to survive and come back to full duty has been an inspiration to the men and women in law enforcement. Although Robby has a long road to recovery, I am confident he will make a complete recovery.

I cannot express enough how excited Chris and I have felt based on everyone's support whether it be through positive vibes, the "Thumb's Up Challenge, kind notes, or donations. Many of the men and women I work with and throughout the country who are in law enforcement have found new hope and been energized by the tremendous support during this campaign.

As we've done throughout this situation, we will continue to keep everyone in the loop regarding Robby's progress.

Sincerely,

Chris Swinney

EXCELLENT NEWS!

Robby has been moved from ICU!

All of your prayers and continual support has worked. Although the road to a full recovery will be long for Robby, what we've all done for this campaign is nothing short of amazing. Together, we all participated in something worthwhile and in my opinion, it's helped Robby and his Family more than I could have imagined.

I will keep everyone posted on his status and any updates.

THANK YOU,

Chris Swinney & Chris Devan

This violent and senseless attack against a heroic SSF police officer is heartbreaking. Sending healing thoughts for hero Robbie Chon's recovery. I hope the attacker never sees the light of day again. Attempted murder of a police officer should be life in prison, no exceptions! Thank you, South San Francisco Police Department for all you do to protect the legal citizens of this area. It is appreciated more than you know.

Awesome job, Chris! @Martha Blocker - the post addresses your questions, which are good ones. Here is what Chris wrote: "Whatever money raised will go directly, in it's entirety, to Robbie and his wonderful family. The money will be used to help off-set any medical costs or unexpected bills that will pop up during this difficult time. Robbie is the kind of man who'd give you the shirt off his back, it's time we return the favor." As you may know, when someone is so critically injured there are things, like housecleaning, gardening, childcare and food, that still need tending to, but are difficult to do in the face of a tragic event. It's these smaller "things" that this money tends to offset in addition to medical services insurance does not cover or partially covers. Depending on how long someone is in need of care, raising funds, like Chris is doing for his friend, always gives families piece of mind they would otherwise not have. Hug your loved ones a little bit tighter, Martha, not just today, but everyday ♥

Chris Swinney, I live in SSF and grew up here. We have wonderful officers here, and I can't tell you how much this has saddened our community. Thank you for taking the time to help Robbie, he sounds like an amazing man. I hope and pray that he makes a full recovery. For all of you, please stay safe out there (from a retired EMT-P).

The SSPD is a Outstanding Police Department. I remember a Officer Coltharp back in the late 90's who I helped as a Civilian Arrest a Hispanic Gang who broke a Elevator at the Best Western Inn in South San Francisco and who were trying to get away in the parking lot in an old style sedan! I had a large can of 36 oz. of Pepper Spray for crowd control aimed at the suspects and a tactical Stinger Flash Light while Coltharp ask for a cover unit! These guys care and the Department is multi-cultural. A very Fair and Balanced Department. I hope Officer Chon recovers entirely; so he can seek justice and get justice he and his family so deserve! The Department needs to train in Silat or Kuntao so that they are not one up on H2H! Just a suggestion since the common Street thug is on drugs and know how to street fight dirty! Silat and Kuntao will make a difference in criminal appreshension. God Bless Soldier!
