Make Heather Cape's Wish Come
Donation protected
Hi! I started this fund for my sister, Heather Cape. I want to let you know right off that giving towards this fund will only help a small wish of Heather's come true. It is not a need she has in her life, but I believe with all of my heart she deserves every ounce of happiness there is to give.
Heather is my oldest sister and was born an average healthy child. In 1994 at the age of 9, she began a progression of seizure activities that continued to worsen over time. Heather had contracted three rare diseases, the worst of them being, Rasmussens. Rasmussens is a disease that over time has covered her left brain hemisphere. Because of the disease, Heather's brain is constantly seizing . Though she has had extensive testing and surgeries, she has continued to decline in health over the last 2o+ years.
In 2000, a vagus nerve stimulator was implanted to try and control her seizures, with 8 different surgeries since then to replace burnt out generators. The VNS has assisted her, but she has still averaged 5 -10 seizures a day. Doctor visits, medications, MRI's, EEG's, seizure after seizure, surgeries, fall after fall, broken teeth, collapsed hip, hip replacement, broken ankle, broken collar bone, hospitalizations, test after test after test and each seemed to lead to a dead end road.... until recently. Through extensive testing, God has allowed the approval for Heather to have a left hemispherectomy. On January 26th at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN, Heather has decided to have the left side of her brain removed. In so doing, her seizure's will cease to exist.
Heather is the most unselfish, loving and encouraging person you will ever meet. And, she has had one request over this last year... and that is to have her own Volkswagon. Though faced with many challenges because of the decline of her health, she can hold her own in her humor and personality. Through the last 20 years of severe seizures and serious health issues, I've never heard Heather ask one thing for herself. If you feel it in your heart to give to this desire of hers, please do so.Of course, Heather will never be able to drive herself because her vision is impaired from her disease and cannot be corrected. However, she has several doctors that she has to see for visits. She goes to therapy at a facility as many as 3 times each week. She also is a faithful member of her Church every time the doors are open where she is a greeter. She has a regular care giver, CNA, who can also take her places any time she wants to go somewhere. Remember she has never really asked for anything for herself, and that is why we were amazed to hear that she would like to have a doodle bug. Her not being able to drive would be overshadowed if she had a little bug that she could call her very own.
Let's make this new 30 year old ( her birthday was Jan. 3), who is about to have the most critical procedure, the happiest girl in the world!
