Heather and her babies help fund

$3,035 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 53 people in 16 months
On 11-26-2017, after Thanksgiving, my cousin, Heather and her kiddos were traveling back to Austin. On there way home, she was hit by a drunk driver. Heather suffered broken ribs, her daughter was the lucky one and only ended up with a laceration on her chin, but her son had the worst injuries. Her son was seat belted in, which saved his life but caused major internal injuries. He was life flighted to Austin Children’s hospital, where he then was taken to surgery, drs removed parts of his intestines and pain is being controlled by an epidural. Heather’s son will be in the hospital a minimum of 2 weeks and up to 3 weeks before he can go home. Heather will have to take many days off work to give her time to heal but also be there for her son as he heals as well. Heather is a person who does not ask for help and had to think long and hard to allow myself and others to help her. She is going to need a lot of financial help through this for travel, time off work, medical, food, bills and normal daily living. If you can help with even $5, that is a happy meal for her daughter, while she also tries to cope with what has happened to there family. If you can’t help financially and want to leave a message to uplift them during this time, that is wonderful as well. Also I know that a percentage is taken from the donations on here, if you want the whole amount to go to them, please get with me and we will work to get it to them. My cousin is a proud single mom of two beautiful kids under the age of 8, please help them during this unfortunate event if you can. The police do not understand how they survived, I do, it was by the grace of God. Let’s help them and relieve some stress from this sweet beautiful family. Thank you.

Heather posted today:

Huge progress is being made around here, there is even talk about possibly going home TODAY! My heart is happy ❤️

Just in the last two days Cole has made major improvements. He is able to get out of bed on his own, stand on his own, walk on his own. He had the epidural removed and went to morphine, had a PICC line placed for nutrition and has been able to hold some food down!

I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you. 2 Kings 20:5

One week tomorrow - still feels so surreal.

Cole has had a few set backs but I know that he is still making progress. Getting up and out of bed is our biggest goal every single day. He cannot do it on his own YET, but he will get there. He needs help sitting up, getting out of bed and someone holding on to each side of him. Yesterday he walked all the way around the nurses station. Today he made it to the window down the hall, about 50 feet!

Last night he was not feeling well at all. He started vomiting, felt miserable and had another long sleepless night. His heart rate is still dropping and the Respiratory Therapist let me know that he has diminished airflow in his right lung. He is working with the Respiratory Team every six hours. We lowered his epidural again this morning in hopes of weaning him off of it and onto a different pain medication. The risk of infection goes up tremendously after 5 days. Hopefully it will not need to be increased again, but I DO NOT want my baby boy feeling any of the pain it is blocking!

The BIG NEWS of the day..COLE FARTED! Usually I'm telling him "stoppp itt" , today we are celebrating it It means that his bowels are starting to work again. It means that he gets to go from NOTHING by mouth to clear liquids! Sounds like some good progress to me! He had some ice chips and a few sips to drink but soon started throwing up again. We will try again tomorrow.

Cole had a special visitor today. More on that coming soon ❤️

This is from Heather’s mom:

I just wanted to give everyone an update on Heather Gwinn and the kids. Cole had an MRI today. They were concerned about a spinal injury to his lower neck, which came back negative. However, they discovered an injury to his lower spine and were contemplating surgery to repair. They decided to hold off and see if it will heal on its own by restricting his activity. Also, his oxygen levels have been declining, mostly due to being flat on his back until they could do the MRI to rule out the neck injury. He still has the epidural, so thankfully he has not been in pain. Tonight was the first time he has been awake for more than 10 minutes. The doctors say he is doing well and progressing as expected. We are still looking at several weeks at the hospital.

Heather is still in considerable pain and still has not gone back for a follow-up on her injuries. Understandably, she hasn't wanted to leave Cole, as there has been so much going on with him. Hopefully, tomorrow will allow her the opportunity to do so.

Aubrey is doing great! She went to school today and is getting tired of everyone asking her if she is ok.

We want to thank everyone for their calls, texts, concern, help and mostly for their prayers! As terrible as the situation is, we know they are truly Blessed and that God has been with them throughout this ordeal.

We also want to thank the Travis County Sheriff's office for all their support and the wonderful doctors and nurses at Dell's Children's Hospital. They are an amazing hospital!
