Journey to Joseph

In the Fall of 2016, the picture of a young boy advocated for on Facebook captured our hearts. We were still in the process of bringing home our 5-year old daughter with Down Syndrome from China, but knew he was our son and that we would go back for him. We also knew this wasn't going to be an easy process as Joseph was diagnosed with multiple severe heart defects and is considered terminal.
Joseph's file was first prepared when he was 6 years old, but was then lost for the next 5 years. When it was finally found again in the Spring of 2016, the wonderful staff at Heartsent worked quickly to get his file updated and listed. Sadly, nobody stepped forward to adopt him.
That is until we came across his file. We knew instantly we would do everything possible to bring him home as quickly as possible and for as long as possible.
Joseph is at high risk of sudden death and was given maybe 4-5 years by a highly respected cardiologist at Children's National Medical Center. Given his severe medical needs, it's a miracle he is still alive. He must have known we were coming for him. :-) Lately Joseph has been battling kidney issues as well, which have landed him in the ICU. He's fighting hard to get better!
None of that scares us away since we know how desperately he wants to be adopted. To have a family of his own. To be loved and cherished. To know somebody wanted him.
We returned home from China only 6 weeks ago and this expedited adoption is a huge financial burden. It is a burden we're happy to take on as that means we get to bring home our boy. However, we can't do this alone.
Would you please consider helping us bring home our son? He spent his entire 12 years in an orphanage and foster home and it's time we bring him home and get him the medical attention he so desperately needs.
