Hello, My name is Hayley and i am trying to raise funds for a new electric wheelchair.
I suffer from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which is a rare genetic connective tissue disorder that effects the formation of the collagen fibres in my body. EDS affects all aspects of the body from muscle and joints to intestinal issues, but has mainly taken away my ability to walk and causes chronic pain.
My current electric wheelchair cannot be repaired anymore and is therefore unusable. The nhs is unable to provide an electric wheelchair to the specifications my condition causes me to need.
Without my chair, i lose my independence. I do have a manual wheelchair but don't have the muscle strength to push it by myself. So am reliant on other people .I also cannot sit in it for very long due to pain.
I would require a wheelchair with a back recline, leg rest raise and tilt to enable me to move the chair when my blood pressure drops due to another condition that goes along with eds called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. It would also need specialised posture support to avoid pain in my joints and pressure sores from being underweight.
I understand that £10,000 is alot of money and any help towards my target would be very much appreciated.
