Hayes family house fire relief

$4,105 of $2,000 goal

Raised by 55 people in 16 months
Last Thursday night, just before midnight, the Hayes family (mom, Kellie and daughter, Nikki) experienced the unthinkable. The details are still emerging, but it sounds like someone had entered the house adjoining their own and started a fire. The fire spread to their own home and within minutes, they lost everything. They did not have any insurance and are currently living in a hotel and trying to secure housing. This appeal is for money to help them pay for a security deposit and first month's rent for a new place (estimated to cost approximately $1600) as well as for immediate needs, like grocery cards ($350) and money to pay for laundering the few clothes that they have ($50). Any extra money will be given for them to pay for housing until they find another home to rent.

I know Kellie because Nikki was in day care and is now in the same classroom with my daughter, Saphira. Although anyone would need help after an emergency like this, Kellie is a single mother with few resources locally. Please consider whether you might be able to help our our friends in need. Funds are needed as soon as possible.

Last week, Nicole was interviewed about her experiences. Thank you for your continued support, donors, and for sharing this GoFundMe account, which will be so helpful as they move beyond this tragedy.

We continue to receive very generous contributions. I appreciate everyone's help in loving and lifting this family. We are currently looking for the following:
-Leads on part-time employment for Kellie. She was unemployed at the time of the fire but has a bachelor's degree in biology and has worked as a lab tech. She is willing to travel (especially because she has not yet secured permanent housing) but she needs a job that is near a bus line.
-Leads on housing, preferably near the East side of Milwaukee and in a safe, kid-friendly neighborhood. She is hoping to spend no more than $800/month on a 2-bedroom apartment.
I am happy to vouch for Kellie personally. Thank you for considering these requests if you live in the Milwaukee area.

4/16/2018 update:
I continue to be amazed at the generosity of this community and I have great news to share with all of you. Another family at the same school Saphira and Nicole attend has graciously offered their home to the Hayes family until they are able to secure permanent housing. I'm so pleased that Kellie will have the money she needs to set down roots in a new home very shortly. Thank you all so much.

Update: Thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far. Although we've already reached our initial goal, I encourage additional contributions that will go directly to Kellie and will be used primarily for food, medicines, and ongoing housing costs. We also appreciate those who have donated necessities and will keep you posted about emerging needs.
