Help us raise funds for Oakland Elizabeth House and for a mural!

Our Go Fund Me campaign  is to raise funds for Oakland Elizabeth House, and to paint a mural on the front of the gallery that will bring attention to this issue. By supporting this campaign you will also be helping beautify the community with an original artwork, help bring awareness to women's issues (which the exhibition will emphasize) acknowledge the importance of art making and creative expression in general, and in turn support women in need who may otherwise not have the resources or funds to live comfortably.

Elizabeth House is a residential transitional program for women with children who have experienced homelessness, violence addiction, or poverty.
The vision of Oakland Elizabeth House is to offer residence to women with children who have experienced the poverty of homelessness, violence or addiction. Its mission is to support the women and children in their transition to independence by creating and maintaining a nurturing, cooperative living environment that provides resources, hospitality, and respect.
The results-oriented program includes individualized case management services, job search development, academic tutoring, mental health counseling, and classes in parenting, communication and time management.
90% of their residents successfully transition from Elizabeth House into safe, permanent housing and obtain improved gainful employment.
They have helped over 500 families since 1991.

Elizabeth House residents have accomplished incredible goals, including: obtaining certificates or advanced degrees in Substance Abuse Counseling, Licensed Vocational Nursing, and Computer Information Management.
"Have You Heard Us Yet", the June exhibition at Abrams Claghorn Gallery, is an all women show featuring 10 local writers and 15 Bay Area artists. We are campaigning to raise funds for a mural project lead and executed by participating artist Leah Tumerman to bring the message of this exhibition to life on the walls of our community and local art gallery. Abrams Claghorn Gallery's strives to showcase local emerging and underrepresented artists and represent the voices of many as intended by the artist.

We believe that contributing in this way; bringing woman's hopes for 2018 to the forefront through art projects, collaboration, and the generosity of your donation, we can continue to forge a new fabric that we as a collective need to prosper after the turmoil of the recent election, events surrounding many "#" movements, and displacement of people in our community.

Our  goal is $7000. The first $3500 will go to Oakland Elizabeth House, the rest to the mural.

About the Show:
The June show at Abrams Claghorn, "Have You heard Us Yet? " is a collection of artworks inspired by poetry written in response to woman’s hopes for 2018.
Curated by Alyssa Stanghellini, and exhibiting the works of 10 female writers, the Abrams Claghorn Gallery will be showing poems visually represented as interpreted by 15 Bay Area artists; collaborating but having never met!

The show is centered around what women's hopes are for 2018 in regards to equality  as well as being a voice for the issues that they feel have largely not been heard, digested, and acted upon by those currently in power within our society.

This show is in congruence with the "#Me Too" and "#Times Up" movements, which have been such a huge happening within the first months of 2018, already. By continuing to shed light on these issues, we will be ever closer as a society, and hopefully on a global scale, to bridge the gap between gender identities.

The showroom at Abrams Claghorn selects its exhibitions and resident artists by seeking out those with a distinct voice. The mission is to showcase work as the artists intend; the concept or statement is paramount and we prefer to alter the gallery to fit the show. Taking cues from contemporary museums, Abrams Claghorn has two distinct spaces: a curated showroom and an accompanying museum style gift shop. The store at Abrams Claghorn sells a selection of functional objects, jewelry, cards, prints and original fine art. All of the work, both in the store and the gallery, is made by San Francisco Bay Area artists and makers.
