Have a Heart for Quentin

Donation protected
Quentin Cato was born with a congenital heart defect that, after 47 years, has lead to end-stage heart failure.

Quentin checked into Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on June 5 with the expectation that his doctors would be able to alleviate excess fluid related to congestive heart failure and send him home - as had happened previously.  Unfortunately, he's never left.

The only "cure" for his type of heart defect is a heart transplant.  However, his treatment is complicated by the fact he had cancer roughly a year and a half ago.  Since he will not be eligible for a heart transplant until he is five years cancer-free, his doctors have determined the best treatment option is to implant a mechanical pump to help his own heart function better while he waits to get on the transplant list.

While the mechanical pump was implanted a week and a half ago, multiple complications have now arisen that will mean Quentin will be hospitalized for an extended period of time. Once he leaves the ICU, his doctors estimate he'll need at least two months of rehab before he can return home.

His wife, Debbie,  his mother, Lavadna Farmer, and Debbie's mother, Charlotte Potter, have remained by his side in St. Louis, which is four hours from their homes in Arkansas.  With at least two more months in St. Louis for rehab and then frequent trips to St. Louis  for follow-up appointments, travel, housing, living, and medical expenses will become immense.

I have created this GoFundMe account as a way for family, friends, and supporters can join Quentin's fight for his life (and a new heart) through donations to help cover expenses related to travel, living expenses, and treatment.
