LVMPD K-9 Dogs Need Harnesses

$825 of $3,100 goal

Meet "Knight"!  - LVMPD's newest German Shepard K9 Patrol dog, named in honor of our hometown hockey team, the Vegas Golden Knights! He loves chasing hockey pucks... and criminals! You may have seen a story about him in the media. Many people know what a courageous job the K-9 partners do in our community, and they wanted to know if Knight had a bullet proof vest to keep him safe.  I learned that the bullet proof vests are not the best for the dogs, as they cause the dogs to overheat too quickly in our hot climate, and the weight of the vest takes away the ability for the K-9 dogs to do their jobs safely!

But -  We can do something very important to help Knight, and his K9 buddies, with the purchase of much needed Lightweight Harnesses!

The harness they need is strong and made from a durable, breathable material. It doesn’t cover the whole body, so it will keep the K-9 Patrol dogs cooler than a full vest. It also would allow the dogs to be lifted over a fence or wall safely, and if they need to be repelled into a building, the harness gives them that capability. Since the harness would be attached to a long lead line back to the handler, this type of harness would also prevent the K-9 dog from falling off a roof, or even worse, being thrown off a high area by a suspect.  Las Vegas Metro officers would have the ability to rappel a K-9 in tactical situations, and prevent the K9 from falling from ledges and high areas. The harness has sturdy handles to help lift the K9 dogs over walls and into attics when needed.

The harness will also have a “K-9 Unit” patch on each side to identify each dog as a K-9 Patrol dog.

The highly trained K9 Patrol dogs partner with Las Vegas Metro Police Department handlers in their daily activities by responding to high risk situations that require their unique abilities. These situations include tracking and apprehending fleeing suspects, building searches, vehicle stops, article searches and more.  By equipping each K9 dog with the harness, the dogs will be further protected without losing any functionality and ability to do their best- so they, and the Metro Police officers, are able to go home safe every day.

Any donation amount is greatly appreciated- and all donations will add up, so we can reach our goal!  The cost of each harness with patches is $155 each, so if you would like to donate the cost of one harness for a dog, that would be awesome too!

I am asking all Vegas Golden Knights fans, supporters of our outstanding and hardworking Las Vegas Metro Police Department, and local dog lovers, to support and protect the K-9 Patrol team who courageously do so much to keep our community safe every day!  Please make a donation- any amount will help.
