Before March 21, Hannah was a normal 20 year old college student at Washburn University. She was very involved with her school, her friends, her family. Honor roll student, never got in trouble, always willing to lend a hand.

On March 21, kidney failure changed all of that. 6 days on life support, another 11 days in the hospital. Dialysis from March 21 through May 28. She got better. And she was still able to graduate with her Associates Degree at Washburn.

We thought we had a year before we had to talk about a kidney transplant.

Hannah spent 29 out of 31 days in the hospital in September to October 2018.  Kidneys were done, Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (swelling and fluid on her brain).  She was diagnosed with a super rare blood disorder called Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome ("AHUS").  She had to drop her semester at college and resume dialysis.

I decided to find her a kidney.  AHUS is a genetic disorder so her family couldn't be tested.  So I set up a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/helpinghannahgarrard ) and started getting the word out there. Thanks to social media and amazing people sharing the word, we found her a donor.

January 29, 2019 Hannah gets her kidney.  Discharged February 3 - all seems fine.  February 5, 2019 - 4 seizures, hypertensive crisis again.  Reaction to her anti-rejection medication.  Four more days in the hospital.

Hannah receives two infusions - Soliris to treat the AHUS and Belatecept for the anti-rejection medication.  She will be on these for the rest of her life.  Her prescriptions are over $100 a month, plus weekly labs, plus weekly infusions through February, then bi-weekly infusions after that.

She can't work because she's recovering from her surgery.

Hannah's coinsurance and deductible restart on March 1.  Her first infusions are March 13.  The Soliris infusion alone bills at about $147,000.  Her deductible and coinsurance are $2,000 total, plus copays and medications.

We are only asking for her coinsurance and deductible, her medications, help with travel to KU Medical Center and her car payment for 3 months (she can't lose her car :( ) .  If she doesn't get the Soliris, the AHUS can return, attack the new kidney and is potentially fatal.  If she doesn't get the Belatacept, her body can reject the kidney and she would have to be back on dialysis.

Please help my daughter - so all she has to worry about is getting better.  Not how to pay for her medications, appointments, labs - all the things to keep her moving forward, to continue healing.
