Maggie and Hank's Get Well Fund

Meet Maggie and Hank. These two adorable preemies are the much anticipated twins born to Sara and Vicente. They were born at 34 weeks after a very rocky and scary pregnancy. Originally, doctors did not believe that Sara and Vicente's dreams of having their babies was to become a reality. Doctors gave a grim prognosis that Sara's pregnancy would not reach viability.

With careful optimism, Sara and Vicente proceeded with the pregnancy and took great care to keep Sara healthy considering Sara previously lost a son, Nathan, who was born at 32 weeks and was only with her for one week.

There was no feeling greater than reaching viability (considered by most professionals to be 24 weeks)! Then weeks kept passing and Sara was maintaining her pregnancy.... everything looked hopeful for a successful (near full-term) pregnancy. Well, until last week.

During a short trip to Whole Foods, Sara's water broke. She was admitted to OU Medical Center where doctors successfully kept her from delivering until she reached her 34-week goal. On June 25th, Sara and Vinny welcomed Margaret at 4 pounds, 6 ounces and Henry at 3 pounds, 15 ounces. The babies have been in NICU care and are fighting every day.

Both babies have been under bili lights to stave off the onset of jaundice. Maggie is struggling to keep her lungs clear and breathe on her own so she has been intubated but is down to a C-PAP machine currently; they've also discovered she has a heart murmur. Sara and Vinny are confident in their doctors and nurses in the NICU and know that they must exert every ounce of energy they have caring for their babies.

Another complication has arisen, however, and it is one that Sara and Vinny thought was completed covered. During Sara's pregnancy (on modified bedrest), Vinny was the sole breadwinner. He saved 50 days of sick leave and was told by his HR department that he would be able to count on it as income while he was on FMLA after the twins arrived. He found out today, after a week off of work, that he could not use his sick leave in conjunction with FMLA. So while his job is protected, their finances are not. Now, he must rush back to work to try to earn enough to keep the lights on at home and the mortgage paid. This leaves Sara alone all day to fight for the babies, and Vinny stretched terribly thin at the most harrowing juncture in his life.

The babies could be in NICU for several more weeks. When they are healthy enough to come home, Sara is going to need Vinny's help adjusting to twins, especially considering her own physical condition post-op, after some complications. We would really like to ease Vinny and Sara's financial worries during this time so that they can focus on healing and caring for their precious new babies.

Please share this campaign with your friends and family through Facebook and Twitter. Your help is needed to guarantee Maggie and Hank the best shot at a speedy recovery. Anyone who knows Sara knows how thoughtful and selfless she is. She loves to surprise people anonymously and we want to do the same for her and for Vinny, who has been a rock during her pregnancy and delivery. We all love Sara, Vinny, and the babies very much and we know you would too!

Everyone is looking forward to their first family photo but the babies have to be healthy in order for Sara, Vinny, Hank, and Maggie to take it together.  As soon as they share it with us, I will share it with you so that you can celebrate with them!
