Pride of Morehead Spring Trip

The Pride of Morehead Band Program will be taking a spring trip to Mrytle Beach in order to compete in five major categories: Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Indoor Drumline, and Winterguard.  In order for us to compete in this competition, we will need adaquate amounts of funding. The festival deposit is $1,000, $7,390 for two charter buses, $260 for each student, $600 for each driver (we will need two), and our drivers meals and lodging. 

The purpose of this trip is primarily educational and for the benefit of each band students growth as a musician. It is crucial for band students to have these musical experiecnes outside of their band program. Outside expereicnes such as the Myrtle Beach trip will give our students a more fulfilling band expereince that they can remember for years to come, even if the student does not continue their musical career after high school. During this trip, we will not only be performing, but we will be recieveing instruction from college band directors after performances. This an important aspect of the trip because it gives our students the ability to work with other directors, get educational feedback, and most importantly, exposure to a much larger audience. 

Recieveing donations will help our program significantly in making this trip happen. Although we have organized many fundraising activities, the funds we will recieve will not be sufficient in covering the cost of this much needed trip. If you know anything about high school band programs or art programs in high schools, you will know that we receive hardly any financial help from our school systems. Our school, J.M. Morehead High School, receives around $3,000 dollars from the county to divide up between each art program here at Morehead.  After the funds are divded up, our band program receives around $300 for the entire year. Band programs need suffiecent amounts of money in order to merely function, much less take trips consisting of the entire band program. Students will be paying $260 which will cover their hotel cost, meals, and participation in the festival. What is not included in the students fees are the charter buses which will cost each student an extra $70. In order prevent our students to have to pay this extra $70, we will need donations to cover this cost. In full, we need YOUR to help our program in successfully taking this trip. If you have a student or relative in band, or was in high school band yourself, please donate. Donations from anyone of any amount will be greatly appreicated by each band student, band parent, and most importanly, our director, Mr. Hines. As a community, we can come up with funds necessary to take our students on this much deserved trip.
