Support for Sean O'Neil

January 2017 (written by friends of the O'Neils):
Sean and his family have been fighting an intense battle with stomach cancer for almost 10 months now. The fight has included months of chemotherapy & radiation, major stomach surgery to remove the tumor, a second emergency surgery due to infection, blood transfusions, continued complications with fluid build-up, more infection, fevers and pain necessitating several trips to MGH. As of this moment, Sean is back in the hospital with unexplained high fever having to undergo test after test as a team of doctors tries to figure out what is causing his current symptoms. He needs to stay in the hospital for the forseeable future while they determine what is wrong and come up with a treatment plan. The funds from this campaign have been vital in supporting the O'Neils through these difficult months. At one time they had hoped that Sean might return to work in March but that is not possible now. These setbacks have significantly delayed the timeline for his recovery. It could realistically be 6 more months before he is able to return to work. He needs to stabilize and heal, get home from the hospital and focus on getting well.

The financial impact of a battle like this is daunting. Funds are running low since Sean has not received income since August and our contributions are very important right now. Join us in donating again and sharing this campaign.

All of us who know and love the O'Neils know the strength and positivity they are bringing to this battle. Lets rally and continue to provide them with the support needed to beat this thing!!

On Thursday, March 24th, 2016, Sean O'Neil of Beverly, MA, beloved father, husband and friend, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The cancer has advanced to somewhere between Stage 3 and Stage 4 and he will need to begin aggressive treatment immediately.

Sean had been diagnosed with diabetes last year and in response, he completely transformed his diet and lifestyle, lost 80 pounds and stopped the effects of the diabetes in its tracks. He was in the best shape of his life and feeling great.

Then, just within the past couple months, he started to experience some GI symptoms. Weight loss had recently been such a positive accomplishment for Sean. Suddenly, he lost interest in eating, began losing too much weight and became easily fatigued.

A trip to the doctor revealed that there was something blocking Sean's stomach and a few days later, Sean and Mel were reeling from the shocking news that there was a large malignant tumor with concerning lymph nodes surrounding the stomach. As we write this, Mel and Sean are working with a team at MGH who have informed them that the plan going forward will include months of chemo and radiation to shrink and try to contain the tumor, followed by surgery, once the tumor has hopefully decreased in size.

Everyone's support will absolutely mean the world to Sean and his family. Sean and his wife, Melody, work full time. They have devoted their lives to education including years working to serve students with learning disabilities. Sean has two amazing kids: Hannah (age 11 in 5th grade) and Aaron (age 8 in 2nd grade). As treatment begins, we want to support this incredible family as they fight for Sean's life.

Your donations will specifically support:

-medical bills
-transportation costs / parking fees
-any living expenses impacted by the loss of Sean's salary
