Honoring late Mr. Hasta Bhattarai

Mr. Hasta Bhattarai, 46, left us all from this physical world in the early hours of April 8, 2018. He passed away suddenly at his residence in Chicago, IL. He is survived by his young wife, and two young boys (8 and 3 years old). A soft-spoken who always had a wide-smile on his face, a family-oriented, a committed social worker, a passionate teacher is no more with us. It is time that we stand by the side of his wife, kids and other family members.

The funeral was held on April 11, 2018 at at 5255 N Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60630.

Mr. Bhattarai was evicted out of Dagana, Bhutan at the age of 18, a fresh high school graduate then, in the early 1990s. He lived in the Beldangi-II refugee camp and quickly started volunteering by teaching at the camp-based schools. He was a Resource Teacher who taught mostly Science and English for several years. He successfully made huge positive impacts on thousands of students. He was one of the renowned teachers. Aside from his teaching profession, he was a booklover. He was such a profound teacher. During the time he taught both in the refugee camp and many other places in Nepal, he has touched thousands of lives. We all will miss him so much. Many who knew him closely not only admired his writing skills in English language, but equally learned from it.

He did his Master's in English literature from the capital city of Nepal. Listen to one of his beautiful poems written in Nepali here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VAvO3ci2AY&sns=fb

Mr. Bhattarai along with his family got resettled in the greater Chicago area in 2008. He immediately started getting involved in assisting other fellow refugees in various capacities for their successful local assimilations. He was a committed volunteer and a dedicated social worker who always made himself readily available to assist those in need within the communities he lived in. In addision, Bhattarai also served as an executive director of Bhutanese Community Association of Illinois for three years.  See here one of his community services and his patience in gardening: https://www.livinglutheran.org/2016/09/global-garden-reminds-refugees-home/ Whether to raise donations for a cause: for instance, funding education in the refugee camps, and/or to assist a friend's funeral costs he did not hesitate to initiate the call and lead it. Now that he is no longer with us, we have the moral obligation to live by his example/legacy. We kindly request you to extend your helping hands to the bereaved Bhattarai family. Many among us cannot make it to his funeral due to personal reasons. This donation campaign gives you that needed platform to offer any financial help that you can make—so his "soul" knows you got his family's back when he is no longer alive. The donations collected from this campaign will go towards his funeral costs, home expenses during this unexpected transition for his wife, and perhaps towards his sons’ educational pot. His physical absence from this world has created an unthinkable loss not only to his family, but also to the entire Bhutanese community in the Diaspora and beyond. As a community, we should support the bereaved family with what we can to honor his selfless contributions. We hope and request that you'll be part of it. It could start before our birth. However, visible art of learning occurs at different points, and in different ways after our birth. Learning is mostly intuitive rather than stardardized formal education. Learning takes place through our sensory perceptions. Intuitively, our sensory perceptions remain in our body as our learning. An act of schooling or a regular physical training throughout our life only reenforces and strengthens the beauty of learning in our life. This differentiates us from other beings in the universe. Learning in a way is an armor or a cosmetic aspect of our life. Dimensions of learning are infinite and incomprehensible! Behavioral, ethical, emotional, logical, social are some of them! Our conduct shows the intensity or the gravity of our learning!" We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, and we hope you’ll join us too by making the contributions.
