Vet care for homeless senior cat
Donation protected
Billy was found near an apartment complex in Columbus, Ohio. As soon as we saw him, we knew he needed help. While we waited for a friend to pick him up, a neighbor told us the cat had been hanging around for as long as he'd lived there: 3 1/2 years. He didn't belong to anyone, but the neighbors fed him.
We rushed him to the vet and got a bit of good news: he is neutered, and his FIV/FeLV test came back negative.
But most of the news we got was bad. Billy is a senior; the vet is certain he's at least 12 years old. He weighs 7 pounds and should weigh at least 11. His racing heart (280 bpm), poor body condition, and a mass in his throat indicate hyperthyroidism (common in cats his age). Fleas and the elements turned his fur into a dirty, matted mess. One pathetic tooth remains in his rotten mouth.
Billy needs lifesaving thyroid treatment and vet care.
Funds collected here will help cover the cost of blood tests, radioiodine treatment ($950 - $1250), and followup vet visits. Blood tests will shed light on his kidney function. If his kidneys are still working properly, then his prognosis after thyroid treatment is very positive.
Despite his grave medical condition, Billy still loves people, and is social and vocal. He likes to have his head scratched, and he enjoys being near people.
We are hoping to show Billy the love and comfort that he's been missing for so long. We need to heal his broken body, and add some life to the years he has left.
