My name is Angela Suarez and I am a veterinarian at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital. This sweet 8 month old girl we've named Lexi was dropped off at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital the morning of April 28th as an emergency with a gun shot wound, where I was the emergency veterinarian who took her case. She was in shock and needed immediate treatment. We discovered she had a broken right front leg due to a bullet hole that went all the way through it.

She is now starting on the road to recovery with the proper wound care and a cast that was made for her by our board certified surgeon. Despite this terrible treatment from a human, she continues to want to do nothing but cuddle and lick everyones face. She has a long road ahead of her with healing, however she is on the right track now. She will have daily changes of her wound dressing where the bullet entered and exited her leg along with the cast to keep her broken leg steady so it can heal.

Hollywood Police responded to the hopsital and are investigating into her shooting. Lexi is lucky to be in the hands of a great rescue, Grateful Paws. They are a 501c3 non-profit, volunteer only no kill rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of many dogs and cats. Any donation made on here will go directly to Lexi's care. Grateful Paws also accepts  tax deductible donations on their secure website  http://www.gratefulpaws.org

Thank you for any help or sharing you can do for this sweet girl and all the other pets cared for by Grateful Paws.  I will continue to post photos and updates on Lexi's care.

Great news everyone! Lexi has been in her foster home for a week now. Her foster mom told me that she just wants to sit by her feet all day and get attention. I changed her cast yesterday (no sedation needed- just someone to rub her belly and she stays still!) and her wounds look amazing! The entrance wound is almost completely healed, and the exit wound which was larger is probably going to be fully closed in about a week. She is coming back Friday for another cast change. Thank you all again for your help and don't forget- Lexi still needs a forever home and Grateful Paws would love your help towards her medical bills on here or their website, gratefulpaws.org

Thank you everyone so much for reaching out for Lexi! She has been doing great, and today was the first day we did not change her bandage under her cast. We will be changing to every other day now. I will also be spaying her tomorrow (Friday). A fecal test showed she had a GI parasite called hookworms, and we gave her 3 days of medication for that. She is also now vaccinated and heartworm negative to begin monthly prevention. Here are 3 photos showing just how much her wounds have progressed (From this past Sunday &Wed). We are still far from our goal of fundraising for Grateful Paws for her; Please share if you can! Thank you to everyone who has helped!

Here are more photos of Lexi's wound. The bullet entered the front of her leg, and exited the back of her leg. She has a small amount of shrapnel still present, however the majority of the bullet went all of the way through and caused damage to the muscles and tendons of her leg along with breaking her tibia bone.
