Gulf Shores High Marching Funds
A total of 12 Gulf Shores High School band members -- aged 12 to 17 -- were injured, including three people who were in critical condition, when an SUV hit them on Tuesday afternoon at a Mardi Gras Parade.
They lost many of their instruments and we are trying to do everything we can to help these kids get through this tragic accident. One of the best ways to get through this is to get them all back playing their music again.
These kids are heartbroken, scared and in shock from this event. Mr. Mixon is their band director and will be spending a lot of time consoling these kids and getting them back on track. So I want to do my part to get the word out and take the stress of worrying about how they will be able to pay for all these instruments they have lost.
All of this money will be given straight to Gulf Shores High School Band to be used for the sole purpose of getting everything they will need for the band to start playing again and help these children put this unfortunate accident behind them. The sooner we raise this money, the sooner these kids can get back to what they love to do!
Let us show them that the world cares and help get them back to their music! This would mean the world to these kids and I don't think anyone can truly understand how thankful they would be for your support!
PLEASE SHARE ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIAS!
THANK YOU ALL FOR ANY SUPPORT YOU BRING!
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO FINANCIALLY HELP, PLEASE SEND YOUR PRAYERS TO THESE KIDS!
PLEASE SHARE THIS ON SOCIAL MEDIA SO WE CAN REACH OUR GOAL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
This is the Mardi Gras accident
I wanted everyone to know that I have been in touch with Mr. Mixon and Dr. Rosado regarding transfer of the funds to the school. Dr. Rosado accepted the invitation to be the beneficiary but due to him leaving the school, was supposed to get with the CFO of the school district regarding this account. I have yet to hear back from him and will see what the next steps will need to be to ensure the school is the beneficiary. This is an important step in order to avoid myself from having to pay a high tax rate on this as a personal fund versus being done for the school. I will update everyone once this process is complete.
Thank you all for everything!
I want to thank each and every person and business from around the country that have donated so far. I assure you, the kids seeing these donations pour in have been a HUGE highlight for them!
Thank you all!
Mr. Smith apparently isn't from a small town where everyone's kid belongs to every parent. Mr. Smith also didn't do his research before commenting negatively on this page. Mr. Smith certainly doesn't understand what "family" means because he wouldn't have jumped to conclusions before reading the posts offering prayers and love to "our" kids and their families. Mr. Smith should think twice before posting about a small town where love, community and family are the cornerstone of how we raise our kids. So Mr. Smith, next time you need help, this community will pray for you, because Mr. Smith, that's what we do here in Gulf Shores, Alabama. There's enough love and encouragement in this small town that we will have the band room filled up, not only with the instruments needed, but with the healed and healthy children who ARE GSHS Band and with the love this community showers our kids with.
John Mason Smith: This is 100% real! My son is in this band and many of his friends were severely injured in today's horrible accident. I just set this up and have the school as the beneficiary of ALL funds! This is not a hoax and I am not a crook. This was done through the efforts of many of these kids! Their idea! I am just the adult that set it up
This has been a very emotional and stressful day. I have seen things I wish I had never seen. Our children need our prayers and hope and love. They do. It need your negative thoughts or views. If you do not wish to donate then don't. If you do not wish to be a part then don't. If you wish to be negative and act like an ass then go elsewhere. You are not needed nor wanted. Leave our kids alone and let them heal in peace. The rest of our community is behind them do move on.
I was not personally hit, but I was next to the vehicle when this happened. I was linked to the GoFundMe page by a band member (Jeremy Koonce) and I saw some people questioning the validity of the page. I can assure you that this is a true page to which you can donate to. I don't use Facebook at all, only to connect to certain things like this. But it is real. There is no official page of course, but this is a true page. No bad intentions. Be safe.
Mr. John, Before discouraging others to donate and state that you know that this is a hoax, I would hope that you would do your own research to find out facts behind the page. However, if you, personally, would rather donate to the school directly, I am sure the band students and parents, as well as the administration, would appreciate it.
Mr. Smith, please refrain from negative comments. Even those of us who don't have band kids are reeling from this. We are a family here in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach and do not need your negativity, especially at a time like this. And yes, a fundraiser like this can pop up very quickly because that's how we react when one of our own is hurt down here in LA. Very quickly!! Peace.
Unable to help financially but my prayers and love are certainly with the entire community. During my 10 years in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, 7 years as the ballet instructor of many of the children, I found this community to be stronger, kinder, and more full of grace than any other place I have known. With much love from Mrs Tucker
