Guide Dog Trevor Needs Your Help

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Trevor. I am a nine-year-old Labrador Retriever with a dream job.  I’ve worked as a guide dog for my blind handler, Desi Noller, for the past eight years. I am so proud to be Desi’s guide, and I couldn’t be happier to help her become a more independent person. We have been quite a team, and she means the world to me.

Unfortunately, Desi is going through a really hard time right now, and I want to help her.

You see, Desi’s husband Don, who I also love very much, has been suffering from what began as Mild Cognitive Impairment, and has very recently become much more serious dementia.   He was recently diagnosed with the Epstein-Barr virus, and on top of that, he had a stroke.

At first, Desi was taking care of Don at home, but he kept falling down and had problems remembering things. So recently, we took Don to the emergency room, where he was admitted to the hospital for seven days.   Instead of Don coming home with us when he got out of the hospital, we moved him to an assisted living care home because he was still very weak and Desi knew she couldn’t take care of him by herself in our apartment.

The assisted living home is not covered by insurance, so if Don needs to stay there, our entire savings will be gone within four months.  Desi and I are moving into a first-floor apartment in January, so that if Don recovers as much as we hope he will, he will have a safe place to come home to.  You see, he can’t climb the stairs to our current apartment anymore.   There will be expenses with packing and moving. And Desi will need to hire some in-home help, too.

Desi is asking friends to “pray like you have never prayed before.” But in addition to prayer, she also needs financial assistance.

My job as a guide dog pays in abundant affection, praise and love. If I got paid money, I’d give it all to Desi.  So, I'm asking all you good-hearted people to give whatever you can to support Desi with Don’s assisted living and mounting medical expenses.

If you've ever had a loved one with dementia, ever felt deeply grateful that you have your vision, ever wanted to truly make a difference in the life of someone who has worked hard to earn their independence and make their way in the world, I am asking you please, to send your prayers and whatever you can spare to help us out.

Puppy kisses, tail wags and eternal gratitude.

Your pal forever,
Trevor

P.S. Nancy Ward, the organizer, was my puppy raiser for Guide Dogs of America. She trained me from 8 weeks old until I started "guide dog college" at 18 months old.
