Dave's Fight

David Bloomquist is a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, a wonderful friend, and a papa to a wonderful bunch of grandchildren! He is a very loving, kind, and generous man that has touched many peoples hearts.

On April 22, 2015 my dad, David Bloomquist was diagnosed with stage 4 carcinoma cancer in his mouth. He under went a major reconstructive surgery on May 12, 2015. During reconstructive surgery he had all his teeth pulled, 3/4 quarters of his tongue removed, a little bit of his jaw bone, and a complete reconstruction of the floor of his mouth. He also had to have 3 lymph nodes removed from his neck that the cancer had spread to. With this major surgery he has a trach for breathing, he cannot talk, and has a feeding tube in place. It has been a long road for recovery, wounds haven't healed properly, he had developed a fistula in his neck but the surgeons told him he needed to start radiation so the cancer would not return.
On August 19, 2015 my dad started his radiation treatments. He under went 30 radiation treatments and finished his treatments on September 30. After radiation we all knew he would have to undergo another major reconstruction to repair his jaw bone and fix all his wounds.

On November 24, 2015 my dad went in for a major surgery to repair his jaw bone, wounds in the mouth, and the fistula in his neck. Little did the surgeons know, the cancer had grown back into his neck wrapping around his carotid artery and spread back into his mouth where the first reconstruction began. He has also had half of his jaw bone completely removed with no reconstruction of it due to the cancer and no longer has any of his tongue left. During this surgery his family had no clue the cancer had came back so soon. It was a total shock. The surgeons are only sure they got 99% of it out. He will now have to live the rest of his life with a trach to protect his airways, a feeding tube and will never be able to talk again. He will also need 24hr care the rest of his life at home. His wishes are to be at home. Chemo is an option if he chooses to do it. They just aren't sure the effects chemo would have on this cancer because of how aggressively it is growing. We are just asking for as much support, courage, and prayers for our family at this time. All donations and funds will help pay medical bills and any other arrangements that arise.

Thank you for all the prayers and support for us during this very difficult time. With love, The Bloomquist Family
