We would like to clarify that we don't represent any institutions, we are just two Guatemalan siblings who wanted to help our country in this desperate time of need. We are coordinating with multiple organizations, GoFundMe, and a team of lawyers, accountants and crowdfunding experts to make sure that this money is distributed with transparency and efficiently to those in need. We are working on these logistics as quickly as possible, and will continue to update you as we make developments. Please see the "Updates" tab for the latest and note that we will demonstrate proof of how your generous donations are used.

Guatemalans had a rough day on Sunday, June 3rd, 2018 when the Fire Volcano (Volcan de Fuego) erupted. It has since dispersed large clouds of ash reaching over 6,000 meters above sea level, and heavy quantities of lava and boiling mud reaching over 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, rushing down the hills of small towns surrounding the volcano. Towns like, El Rodeo village, located on the skirts of the volcano that have been completely buried.

In only a few hours several lives have already been taken and there are over 300 people injured. It's expected that the number of affected people will be over a million. This is not the first time citizens surrounding the volcano have experienced this. Since 2002 the volcano has been active, and every few years has had meaningful activity, however, an event of this magnitude has never been witnessed by Guatemalans and the effects are being catastrophic.

What the money will be used for:

1. Help the Guatemalan Red Cross cover medical expenses.
2. Children's Burn Foundation (Fundación para Niños Quemados de Guatemala).
3. Long term support for the 3,000 + families affected by this tragedy.

- Proof of the transfer of funds will be posted, gofundme does not have an option for the funds to be deposited directly to the Guatemalan Red Cross.-----------------------------------------------------------

Hi friends, we hope you are all having a good week!

The process of moving the funds to Guatemala has started. After many conversation and research, we identified an organization that fits the full transparency value we were looking for. International Church Ministries, Inc. (ICM) is a non-profit organization who holds a 501(c)3 status in the US. They benefit Union Church of Guatemala in Guatemala City. Since 1986 one of their focuses has been supporting those serving in Guatemala and the Guatemalan community. They have facilitated the process of transferring funds in the past charging a 3% processing fee. For the purposes of this disaster relief, they have generously decided to make the transfer of funds from GoFundMe to the selected Guatemalan local foundations without charging us a fee. We are very grateful for their collaboration and support.

The only fees our fund has incurred is the money that has to be paid to the credit card processing center, that fee is 2.9% + $.30 of each transaction. GoFundMe is a platform that functions from tips which each one of us had the option to participate in when we used our credit cards for the donation, they are not making any money from our efforts. We all should feel incredibly proud as to what we accomplished as a community.

The executives at GoFundMe have been an intricate part of our detailed process and they continue to collaborate in an amazing manner. Due to our commitment to transparency, we will never touch the money. It is going from GoFundMe directly into the ICM bank account and checks will be made out in Guatemala’s local currency (Quetzales) directly to the assigned organizations. As we shared in the past the reason all this has taken time is because letters or understanding are drafted, reviewed and signed. Local organizations will provide letters as to how the funds will be implemented. We will share all that documentation once the process is finalized.

We are diligently working on the paperwork for the local foundations that will benefit from your generosity. Phase I beneficited foundations remain the same previously mentioned, as for Phase II we will be supporting housing and educational efforts. More details soon!

Last but certainly not least many of you took the time to write us notes of encouragement and gratitude. We appreciate your time and efforts, you guys are awesome!

All our best!
Alfonso and Pamela

Hi Friends,

We appreciate your patience in us getting you an update. Gofundme’s policy is that it only allows transfers to one account and not multiple. Due to our commitment to transparency to you we Alfonso and Pamela will not touch the money.

We are happy to let you know that we are finalizing details as to how the money is going to be transferred from the GoFundMe campaign into an institution in the US that holds a 501(c)3 status. We are working with them to transfer the donations into the foundations in Guatemala.

We would like to share with you these pictures which were taken by someone on the frontlines, who is directly supporting us. As you can see the generous donations are vast for immediate relief for which our focus on Phase 2 is geared towards midterm and long-term support for those affected.

For the last few days, we have been working diligently with local foundations as well as drafting MOUs’ (nonbinding agreement between two or more parties outlining the terms and details of an understanding, including each parties' requirements and responsibilities) for them to meet the requirements we have to ensure the best utilization of your funds. We are going through a very detailed process (that’s not required by GoFundMe but we are going the extra mile to ensure the funds are 100% utilized for the victims) which is taking us time, but rest assured they will be used properly.

We will continue to update as soon as advancements are made.

Thank you, You guys are awesome!

Hi Friends,

We have spent countless hours speaking with professionals with expertise in crowdfunding as well as people on the grounds who have been informing us about the current situation experienced by the victims of this atrocity.

We are working directly with the institutions to be aided however funds will not yet be released until the proper paperwork is provided to us to ensure that the money will be used in the efforts we all fundraise it for. These procedures take time.

In regards to certain comments on our thread. You can check out the website for Guatemala Children’s Burn Foundation (Fundación para Niños Quemados de Guatemala) here :

http://www.fundaquemgt.org/ and their FB page https://www.facebook.com/fundaquemgt/

They are based in Guatemala but also registered as a 501(c)3 in the US which is the address and phone number in the official letter signed by the Vice President of the foundation Rene Keilhauer.

At the moment they are receiving and treating burned children from the volcano who are not being sent for treatment in the US, yet some of them are in very critical conditions.

We hope this answers some of your questions. Rest be assured funds are being destined to those in most need and through a transparent process for which updates will be posted according to their advancements.

Thank you, You guys are awesome!
