This weekend, Georgia Tech suffered the tragic suicide of one of its students, fourth-year Scout Schultz. Following Scout’s death, a Candlelight Vigil was scheduled for Monday night; however, this vigil turned violent with the arrival of violent protestors, many of whom are not even currently attending Georgia Tech. Two GTPD officers were injured in the ensuing melees and a GTPD cruiser was torched. The conditions of the officers are unknown at this time.

We at the Marksmanship Club at Georgia Tech have always worked closely with GTPD to ensure that we follow the strictest procedures on firearm safety; we have also known them as acquaintances and even friends. They are a strong family, and we are certain that they will get through this; however, as we at the Marksmanship Club and we as members of the Georgia Tech Student Body feel that they deserve some extra support following tonight’s horrific events. GTPD has always been kind to students, treating us far more as equals than subjects; many of them are Georgia Tech graduates themselves. They constantly take steps to ensure that we’re safe, reach out to us, and make concrete efforts to get to know students on a personal level. Now, it’s our turn to give back to them.

All proceeds from this GoFundMe will be used to assist the Georgia Tech Police Department and the affected officers.

Hey everyone,

After about two months of back-and-forth between ourselves, GTPD, and Georgia Tech, we are ready to finally transfer the funds to them!

As such, we're posting the following at GoFundMe's request. We are the Georgia Tech Marksmanship Club, a chartered Georgia Tech organization. Our primary relationship to GTPD has been working with them over the years to ensure that our new members are accurately informed in firearms safety, as well as training with them.

The process to deliver the funds to the Georgia Tech Police Department have been a long one, but through working with LaConnia Jones, the Financial Manager of GTPD, and Lee Wates, the Associate Controller for Georgia Tech, we have set up an agency fund at Georgia Tech for the donations. We will be drawing down the donations to our club account, then donating them as a lump sum to Georgia Tech via check. If anyone has questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Hello everybody,

We here at the Marksmanship Club are in awe of how much the Georgia Tech community has contributed to this effort in such a short time frame: well over $8000 in under a day! We are glad that so many people recognize the great service that the Georgia Tech Police Department provides for our community.

As we grow closer to our goal, we would like to post an update with excellent news. The two officers who were injured as a result of last night's riot have returned home from the hospital.

This contribution to GTPD will serve as an important message that we, as a community, greatly value the selfless service they bring to our students, faculty, staff, and members of the campus community.

The Executive Board of the Marksmanship Club would like to offer our thanks to everyone who has played a part in this great effort and to those who continue to donate.
