Keep The GRoovy Going !

When was the last time you heard: “Long Live Our Love” by the Shangri Las, “England Swings” by Roger Miller and “Jeepster” by T-Rex all played in a row on your radio?

Groovy Reflections Radio  is an internet radio station born out of a passion for the music and pop culture of the 60’s and 70’s as well as a frustration of hearing the same ten songs on commercial radio over and over. Groovy Reflections Radio plays lot of tunes we all love, minor hits and tunes that bubbled under the top 100, making old songs new again. Genres include rock, pop, country, folk, girl group, psychedelic/garage and much more. Groovy Reflections Radio also plays TV themes and jingles from the “Groovy Years”. Let us surprise you! Though what’s played is primarily appealing to boomers, anyone from age “2 to 200” are welcome to GRoove along!

We began work on the radio station November 2012 by first determining the best long-term solution for us, which was Shoutcast. Then, we built the media library. The launch happened on May 6, 2013. At that time we began to pay for additional storage and royalties.  We launched our first original show on May 14, 2013; My Front Porch with Paul Dee, which focuses on folk music of the 60’s and adds contemporary tunes in the folk genre as well. The show continues to build a dedicated following. The Lava Lamp Hour launched on July 11, 2013 and contains hits, minor hits and non-hits, usually based on a theme, and eclectic in nature.

The current team behind Groovy Reflections Radio represents a diverse background in radio from a volunteer for a college station, to On-Air DJ, Music Director, and Station Manager.

We welcome song requests and interacting with our listeners via social media outlets.  We’ve run special playlists such as our summer song special that have been wildly popular with our audience. We strive to implement new ideas with our playlists to make the listeners happy! Those that have tuned in have given us a lot of positive feedback!

The money raised would cover several areas: Costs for the station going forward for the next 12 months, LLC costs, funding for further promoting the radio station, and pay for a part-time employee.  The time spent between programming the station, writing shows, and keeping posts current on several social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, and Tsu) is overwhelming!

Breakdown of costs.

Currently the station costs about $250 per month ($3,000 annually) to run for the player, royalties, and media storage and software costs. Royalties will increase as the listener base grows. AND, royalty rates overall are expected to rise: According to Streamlicensing.com the royalty fees are possibly doubling  in 2016 due to a restructuring in how these fees are calculated.

Part/time employment: Compensation for a part time person for running/programming the station and building more awareness for the station. This would come to about $300 a month, or $3,600 for a year.

LLC costs: $800 a year.

Costs for the website: $36 a year for domain plus $99 a year for webite software.

Additional music for our growing Groovy Reflections Radio library. We purchase music from Amazon, emusic, and other sources. We're hoping to double the library in the next year to about 10,000 songs.

Any additional dollars will go towards advertising and promotion as well. Groovy Reflections Radio currently sells hand tie-dye t-shirts, “radio tower” t-shirts, and has just launched a line of psychedelic-themed digital art prints. The radio station’s persona brings uniqueness to the table that is not found in commercial radio. It stands apart from everything else that is out there. Early indicators and feedback tell us that listeners are enjoying what they’re hear, however, we need to build a greater awareness.

Groovy Reflections Radio is an opportunity to give back by sharing the passion for the music we (boomers) grew up with, create jobs, and give others an opportunity to share that passion of the 60's and 70's. And…small business is what America is built on! Groovy Reflections Radio is about spreading joy and bringing a smile to people’s faces both through the music and via the various causes we’ve supported such as finding a cure for Batten’s disease and helping Oklahoma tornado victims.

We are asking you to extend your hand. We would like to shake that hand and welcome you to our GRoovy world. Listen to Groovy Reflections Radio and enjoy. Bask in the wonderful memories the music bring to you. The objective is to raise $10,000 or more to keep us going for 2016 and to help us grow.

Some of you may be part of our 84,000+ fans on Facebook , 15,000 followers on Twitter , 4,900+ followers on Google+ , or one of our fans on our just launched profile on up and coming Tsu . Thanks for already being a part of the GRooviness!

We urge you to take a listen to the mix of music and tune into our original shows. You WILL be pleased!

And if just 8% of our fans and followers gave ONE DOLLAR each, we'd be okay to stay on the air for quite a while!! Unfortunately, with GoFundMe the minimum is $5 ...so hope you are able to help.

Thanks so much for your support! Gerry Wendel, AKA Hostess Gerry of the Lava Lamp Radio Hour, Founder of Groovy Reflections and Groovy Reflections Radio.
