About Greening Uganda
Project Greening Uganda is set up to reforest parts of Uganda starting with 1 million trees. Later we want to expand it as this has multiple social and ecological benefits: it helps in food production, fights the effects of global warming because trees help fight droughts, avoid flooding during heavy rainfall and cool areas where there are a lot of trees, while securing atmospheric carbon in new biomass. It can also provide charcoal for cooking without touching old growth trees which are vital to protect local wildlife like gorilla’s and chimpanzees, to name just two famous species. The forests where these beautiful creatures live are a five hour drive away over very wobbly dirt roads at speed of maximum twenty kilometer per hour.

The set-up is simple, with little investment a million tree saplings are grown from seeds and irrigated till they can be planted in assigned areas. Local communities are involved in the planning and assignment of locations for planting. Local labor, mainly women make a small living out of helping during the nursery stage of the saplings. This phase can be carries out for about 15 Ugandan shilling (UGX) or 3 SAPLINGS FOR A PENNY! Schools and volunteers are involved in the planting phase (the rainy season, normally from half September to half December, which can be done for about ONE PENNY PER TREE including all costs for tools, transport, supervision etc.

We now have a connection to PRINTERNET, running an internet cafe to generate some sustainable results...

Printernet comes to Greening Uganda
(Printernet facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/943792359108972/ )

Here for planting I'm trying to raise through computer training and internet cafe
“We are doing great work with printernet ,with help of printernet we have managed to mobilise money Locally from internet cafe. “
“I'm now printing t-shirt of printernet foundation and selling them, I hope to raise more money to help us in planting, alongside internet café”
“We currently have seven computer. Each computer earns 12000sh (about £2.50 a day).this means increase in computer we can have increased revenue.”
“Each computer here goes for 1,050,000sh (about £220). This is a sure means of having a continuous income for the project. We could make good use of at least four more computers”
“I started computer training also, each person contributes 70,000sh (£15) to the project for three weeks”
Sadly, there is a ban on import of used computers to Uganda so second-hand computers can’t help :-(
We only have two computers that do training
Where as there is an opportunity to have more youth doing training on our computers but we don't have computer
Your offer was good, but our government policies on used materials is terrible

Greening Uganda update
Irrigation of the nursery bed is now quite urgent.
“We are doing well, we managed to stop last evening bush fire, thanks to our volunteers. Our volunteers moved fast to affect other places I'm very excited of my strong tea.
“Greening Uganda group getting ready now for the next planting, although we have faced a fire challenge but our team managed to block the fire “
“We come to realize that the only greening Uganda group, can do better is to have reliable funds, and thus we started the cafe and computer training center that is helping our local people and at the same time helping our organization to raise more money for the next planting. “
We are currently having seven computers that was donated by printernet foundations.
Each computer earns 3$ per day, this means we can earn more if we had more computers.
I wish to request well wishers to to support us by buying more computers

Even though the planting season is due to end round about now, the forecasts are for more rain until at least Friday - so any donations can go directly into trees in the ground!
