WE'VE DONE IT!!

WE HAVE CLOSED OUR CROWDFUND AS WE HAVE NOW BOUGHT THE LAND. WE WILL BE IN TOUCH ABOUT OUR CROWDFUNDERS DAY ON THE FARM NEXT YEAR.
A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS SUPPORTED US! FROM PHIL, STEVE, AND EVERYONE AT HOOK AND SON.

Last year's crowdfund we ran as you may know, even with the terrific support it received, didn't quite get over the line. The farm we were hoping to buy fell through. However, we are still desperate to replace the land we are losing to housing, and quite amazingly, grazing land on the Pevesey Levels next door to us has come onto the market. The guide price is £350,000 and whatever we can crowdfund towards it will help massively in our attempt to try and buy it. So here we go again! The map shows in red the land that we are losing. with the remaining part of Longleys Farm in green. The land that has come onto the market is known as 'The Fosters' and is shown as blue. You can see it would be perfect to help replace the land we are losing, especially as the access to it is through our land.

If we can buy The Fosters fields, it will mean that we can continue farming and keep all our cows, and continue to supply all our customers with their raw milk, cream, butter and yoghurt. If we fail to replace the grazing fields shown in red, then we will have to keep about 40 fewer cows, our milk production will be nearly halved, which not only means we won't be able to supply all our current customers, it really questions the viability of our raw milk farm! So anything that you can give to help us to buy the land would be fantastic. To say a big thankyou to you for supporting our campaign  and helping save our farm and cows, you will be invited to our crowdfunders day on the farm, with tractor and trailer rides and BBQ in our fields on the beautiful Pevensey Levels, and see our cows grazing the land that you helped to buy!

Hello to all our crowdfunders!
This morning we have received our official notification from the FSA that we are now registered to sell raw milk again! Although it's chucking it down with rain today, it feels as though the sun is shining brightly again after having had a huge black cloud over us for the last fourteen months! For our local customers, we are currently sorting out those of you that want raw milk delivered by our milkmen, and for those of you around the country, even as far away as Scotland, who have been waiting for our raw milk to come back, we have just made our online shop live again. You can place an order for our wonderful organic grass fed raw milk and butter, cream and ghee at our online farm shop: www.hookandsonfarmshop.co.uk
The cows of course have been completely oblivious to the stress we have been under over the last year. Just like Jill in the photo, as long as they've got a lovely bit of traditional pasture in front of them and the sun is shining....what is there to worry about!
Thank you all so much for all your support,
Best,
Phil, Steve, and all of us at Hook and Son

Hello everyone,
Just to let you know, our raw milk isn't back quite yet. Although we have received our confirmation from the APHA that we are officially TB free again, we still have to wait for the FSA to test our milk for hygiene. The FSA will take a sample of our milk on Monday morning, and we should know the result by the end of next week. If the milk result passes, then we will be licensed with the FSA to sell raw milk again. It is frustrating......just when you think you've got over the line, there is then another line to get past. Hopefully that will be it!
Best,
Steve

Hello everyone!

Great news, Ida passed her TB test this morning, her skin was as flat as a pancake, no TB bumps at all! We're all so thrilled. It has been a dreadful year with our business so close to being absolutely wrecked by the current TB testing system, but hopefully we can now start to rebuild our business. We've still got some bureaucratic process to go through, we need to receive our official TB free status from the APHA, and then re register with the Food Standards Agency to sell raw milk again. I'll update you with how that goes.
Thank you all for helping us over the last year. We wouldn't be here without all your donations and amazing words of support.
Best,
Steve

Hello to all of you that have supported us over the last year, and helped so much to buy the land and keep our business going. This is the crucial TB week for us. Our cow Ida had the first part of her skin test done on Monday when our vet measured her skin thickness, and jabbed her in her skin with both avian and bovine TB. Our vet will come back tomorrow morning (Thursday 23rd) to re measure her skin at these two injection sites on her neck, to see if she is a TB reactor, or passes her test. It goes without saying it is unbearably tense for everyone on the farm at the moment. Our future will be shaped by what happens tomorrow morning at around 10am. I will let you know as soon as possible tomorrow.
Our cashflow is still not good. Even if we pass the test, and be able to sell raw milk again, it will take several months to pay back what we currently owe to suppliers and HMRC who have been wonderful in bearing with us to date. If you know anyone who can donate to our campaign, it will be a big help..
I'll be in touch tomorrow,
