You are probably wondering why I have reached out to you!

Last February the PNG Olympic committee flew me up in hopes that I would qualify and compete for PNG (Papua New Guinea) in Powerlifting at the South Pacific Games (SPG) . (The SPG is basically the Olympics of the Pacific Islands and is held every 4 years). I qualified and smashed a long standing record for my weight class and this created a lot of media hype while I was up there it would have been guaranteed Gold medal for team PNG. (Unfortunately I did not get to compete at the games due to a political issue with the government not passing dual citizenship in time). I had little girls coming up to me after the event asking how to get big and strong, which was incredibly powerful. I instantly recognised that I had become a role model for some and that what I had achieved was inspirational. In a country where family violence is rife, sport has the ability to empower and break cycles. To quote Kofi Annan, “when women thrive, all of society benefits”.

The inspirational Ms Dika Toua is the Olympic weightlifting Commonwealth Gold Medallist in the 53kg weight class. The first PNG professional woman weightlifter that has been competing around the world representing PNG but more importantly, she represents a change in womens empowerment and the belief that they can achieve great things too . Dika is from Hanuabada a small village, on the outskirts of the Nation’s capital, Port Moresby. She grew up and lifted in a basic tin shed with equipment that would break most lifters but PNG athletes are tough as nails and just lift with what they have. She is empowering the next generation of future Olympians and needs equipment.

I want to help Dika and other weightlifting gyms of PNG and I would ask if you can help too by sending your unwanted/ second hand, EXCESS GYM CLOTHES, SHOES, BELTS, STRAPS, LIFTING SUITS, LIFTING SOCKS, BUMBERS, SQUAT RACKS, PLATFORMS to Odd Socks Halterophilie. The address is : 6/25 George st, North Strathfield. Sydney, 2137

Go Fund Me has been set up and I am hoping this will cover the shipping costs & taxes.

Thank you to all your support!!!!! X
