Mi nombre es Luis Marval, estoy ayudando a mi hermana Olga con esta campaña realizada para financiar sus medicamentos.

Me gustaría señalar que se retirarán los fondos en mi nombre (porque Olga no es ciudadano de los Estados Unidos y ella no puede recibir directamente estos fondos). A continuación, encontrarán lo que ella escribió con respecto a su condición médica.

Mi nombre es Olga Marval de Barrios, soy venezolana, biólogo, docente, luchadora; tengo 64 años y estoy atravesando una etapa difícil en mi vida.

En octubre de 2015 fui diagnosticada con Cáncer de Seno estadío II. El primer paso de mi terapia fue la extracción del tumor, el cual junto con 3 ciclos de quimioterapia han consumido una gran parte del monto disponible en mi seguro médico, dejando solo lo suficiente para 4 sesiones de quimioterapia de 12 que aun debo completar.

Lo que más me preocupa de mi situación, es la dificultad de conseguir los medicamentos a los cuales debo estar sometida, los mismos no son reemplazables y por la escasez en mi país, me veo en la necesidad de adquirirlos en el exterior.

Para vencer esta enfermedad, debo continuar con el tratamiento establecido, siendo el principal medicamento Herceptin. Solo el anterior tiene un costo aproximado de 1300$ por ampolla de 440 mg, yo necesito 9 ampollas.

El camino es largo, y ni mi familia ni yo tenemos las posibilidades económicas de pagar todo el tratamiento. Por estas razones, pido de tu solidaridad para combatir esta enfermedad.

Quiero seguir siendo una mujer activa, investigadora, profesora, esposa, madre, abuela, amiga… No quiero permitir que el cáncer defina mi vida, quiero luchar para salir adelante y tengo mucha fe que con la ayuda de Dios y la tuya, lo lograre.

My name is Olga Marval de Barrios, I am Venezuelan, a biologist, teacher, courageous and strong woman. I’m 64 years old and I’m going through a difficult time in my life.

In October 2015 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. The first step of my therapy was the tumor’s removal, which along with 3 cycles of chemo have largely consumed my medical insurance, leaving enough for only 4 of the remaining 12 sessions.

What worries me the most about all of it, is the difficulty of locating the necessary drugs and, due to shortage in my country, I’m forced to purchase them abroad.

To overcome this disease, I must continue the established treatment, being the main drug Herceptin, which has an approximate cost of $1300 per 440 mg vial, and I need 9 vials.

The road is long, and neither my family nor I have the financial ability to pay the entire treatment. Therefore, I ask for your solidarity to get through this disease.

I want to keep being an active woman, researcher, teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, friend... I'm not willing to give up so easily. I will not let cancer define my life, I want to fight it and I got great faith that with God's help and yours, I'll make it.
