MAKE US ROLLER SKATE READY!!!!
In order to complete the heating and air conditioning system, fire sprinkler system, the stage renovations, the Skate Court tile flooring, concession counter and kitchen, railing systems and landscaping, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The Greenport American Legion Restoration Project was started in 2010 by George D. Costello, Sr. George had a vision of the building being restored and reopened. Growing up and living in Greenport his whole life, George along with many other local residents remembered all of the wonderful community events and functions the legion hosted including legion affairs, roller skating, weddings, concerts, fire departments functions, fundraisers, just to name a few. George recruited legion members, local talent and many volunteers to start the project. This group of people put in countless hours to begin the project. After his untimely death on December 28, 2013, the members and volunteers have remained committed to complete this restoration project. There have been numerous local fundraisers, and many private donations that have helped keep the project moving forward.
Anyone who is familar with the size of this project/building will understand why it is still ongoing. So far the renovation has included complete interior demolition and clean- up, replacement of the entire concrete south wall, replacement of all windows and galvanized lintels, all new roofing materials, new drainage, new plumbing, new electrical service and wiring, exterior painting, all new insulation, and 3" of concrete flooring throughout the building.
We are currently working on a new wood ceiling, and new bathrooms. All of the above have been funded thanks to the many generous donations thus far.
Any donation large or small will help us complete this wonderful community meeting place. When it is completed the building will be used for American Legion meetings, roller skating, fundraisers, fire department functions, and will be available to host a variety of large indoor events and special occasions.
