Innovative Drone Battery

             We are a team of New Haven high school students who have the dream of becoming mechanical, electrical, and software engineers. We have decided to build a drone with the idea to extend its battery life. We want to make a battery composed of up to 60 nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery cells, giving each cell 800mAh and the entire battery a current of 48 Ah (amp hours) at only $250. NiMH is cheaper, has a longer lifespan, more durable, and less flammable than conventional lithium polymer (Li-Po). 

             No drone has ever used this chemical formula or amount of cells before, which is why current batteries cost around $500 for 4-6 cells of Li-Po with only 2.2 amp hours. Despite the high number of cells, it will weigh less than half of usual batteries because we plan to interlace the battery onto the chassis (or body) of the drone.

          We believe that everyone has a purpose and for our team, it is to revolutionize the tech industry starting with the effectiveness of a drone battery. However, this may not happen due to lack of funding. We have little to no money to build the drone or even pay the booth fee to enter it into a STEM competition for our chance to showcase our idea and talents.
