On July 3rd our beautiful and fun-loving Erica Noel Owen was taken from us in a cowardly and evil act of violence.  Erica was a wonderful daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, niece, friend, and coworker, as well as a caring nurse to hundreds of patients.  Our hearts are forever broken and we are awash in grief more than words can describe.  However, we strive to hold our heads high with the same faith in Christ that Erica held, and remember her with love, honor, and gratitude for the time we had with her.

We lost this beautiful girl at the tender age of 25 with so much life to live and share with us.  Erica was truly full of life, love and happiness.  It only took a few moments for those that met her to feel her beautiful soul through her big brown eyes and infectious smile.  Erica dearly loved her family and friends, as well as her community and profession.  Consequently, it only makes sense that we show our love for Erica by assisting future nurses and to combat domestic violence in our community.

To honor our Erica we have established the Erica Noel Owen, RN Scholarship Fund at Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC).  The scholarship fund will provide monies to students enrolled in OCTC’s Nursing Program.  Erica earned two Associate of Science degrees at OCTC and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Kentucky University.  She loved her job as an RN and also enjoyed studying nursing.  Erica worked as a CNA while pursuing her nursing degree.  Erica clearly gave much of her life to helping those that could not help themselves.

Not only are we going to honor Erica through the OCTC scholarship fund but use monies raised in her name to advocate against domestic violence.  The effort to combat domestic violence will be detailed soon.  For now, we are asking for donations that will go entirely to the Erica Noel Owen, RN Scholarship Fund.  Any amount will be greatly appreciated.  Purple was one of Erica's favorite colors and coincidentally, purple is the color used in domestic violence awareness campaigns.  So lets GoPurpleForErica and fight the good fight!
