More About Ian...
Ian R. Crumrine began his training in Shotokan Karate under Shihan Isao 'Gary' Tsutsui (Colorado Budokan) at the age of 5 (in 2010) and has continued his training, without interruption, for the last eight years.

Ian Crumrine holds the distinction of being the youngest person (at age 12) to ever be tested for and achieved a Dan (Black Belt) ranking from Sensei Tsutsui in the four decades he has been training students in karate.

Ian Crumrine regularly participates in a wide range of local, national, and international tournaments and has been a medalist in both Kata and Kumite competitions in over 40 events in the last 8 years.

Notable tournaments in which he has been a medalist include; USA Open (USANKF), Junior International Cup / Junior Olympics, Yoshida Cup, Friendship Cup, Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association (FSKA) World Championships, Utah State Karate Championships, United States Karate Alliance (USKA) Colorado State Championships, Wa no Kizuna Invitational (JKF Wado-kai), USANKF National Championships, and others. Ian is a current US Junior National Team Member.

Ian Crumrine also regularly participates in public demonstrations promoting the art of karate and assists in instruction at his dojo. Ian has acted as a coach to special needs students at Hamilton Middle School (Denver, CO), where he currently attends, and holds a number of informal records in the physical education department there (PACER test and others).

In addition to his dedication to karate, Ian Crumrine has also excelled in his academic endeavors and is currently a member of the High Honor Roll at Hamilton Middle School as well as a Junior National Honor Roll Society member with a 3.9 GPA. Ian is also an SSI / PADI certified SCUBA diver (certified at age 12).

Karate in the Olympics
Karate will make its first appearance as an Olympic sport at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan; a new and exciting development for sport karate practitioners around the world.

Although there are many independent karate organizations across the United States, each using their own rules and regulations, the Olympic games will utilize the World Karate Federation (WKF) rule set in its competition; the same rules and regulations that Ian has trained and competed under since the age of 5.

Ian is very excited about this development and although he will be too young to compete in 2020, he hopes to continue his training and endeavor to that level of competition over the coming years.
