Dalton Dunfield, 17, is the son of Jason Schultz (Computer Helpers) and Deanna Schultz. He is a Brenham High School Junior and Junior Varsity Football player. He enjoys football and fishing as well as hanging out with his friends and family. Dalton has two younger brothers- Colton and Brandon and a younger sister- Tegan.
On January 22nd, 2016 while in weightlifting class Dalton suffered an accident which resulted in a burst fracture of his T12 vertebrae that caused compression of his central spinal cord. He immediately lost all sensation from his waist down. He underwent emergency spinal surgery at St. Josephs in Bryan within a couple of hours after his injury. Since that day he has been recovering in inpatient physical therapy initially in Bryan and now in Houston at Memorial Hermann TIRR. While he has made some improvements in regaining slight movement and sensation of his upper legs at this time he cannot walk independently or reliably control the function of his legs below knee level. Currently the plan is for him to come home on March 15th.
At this time Dalton is wheelchair dependent and his family’s home will require major modifications to make it suitable for his needs. Presently they do not have a bathroom that he can maneuver his wheelchair in. Together we are organizing a fundraiser on May 12th, 2016 at Fireman’s Training Center in Brenham to help defray some of the costs of his rehabilitation and home needs.
For those who want to contribute but cannot make it on May 12th we decided to start this Go Fund Me account.
Dalton has remained positive and strong through all of this and we hope to show him our support through this event. We need your support in any way that you can. We are planning on having a catered dinner with silent and live auction to benefit this outstanding Washington county youth.
